New condition while waiting on ratings

Hi all. Thank you for all the previous information. The PEB found me unfit for respiratory issues, and I am waiting for VA ratings. Still active duty, just diagnosed with colon cancer (polyp). They think they got all of it, but we are talking probabilities. Should I try to get this added now (even for a 0) or do I need to wait until the IDES process is finished to file? Thanks again. Bob

For military purposes (i.e., as unfitting), or for VA purposes?

Seems to me that if there are no duty limitations/functional impact and it was benign, it is unlikely to be found unfitting. And at a 0% rating, it would not make a difference for your military rating. So, seems to make little difference if it was found unfitting or not (except, if you wanted to play out permutations with a TDRL finding for later possible increased ratings if there is a recurrence/development into malignancy later).

However, generally, I tend to favor claiming anything that is supported and plausible so long as there is no downside to doing so.

If you mean for VA purposes, unless a "referred" condition, they will look at it until you are out and have achieved Veterans status. At that point, I would definitely seek to have it added as an additional claim.

Thank you Jason. I don't believe its an unfit condition, so its not for DOD purposes. However, it did come back as malignant, and I am worried about future occurrences - so it sounds like filing with the VA after the PEB process is the appropriate course. Thanks for all your work on this forum.
