Am a very scared Dad of a 25 yo Sailor. He has almost seven years in and has three issues I need help with. In short. He had hemorrhoid surgery in boot camp in 04, set him back 3 weeks. Move ahead 3 years and he's on a destroyer in the gulf when taking a dewatering pump down a ladder the other DC slips, my son goes down with it and hit's the bulkhead. No xray right away because he's in the gulf. Back to Pearl and starts what I consider mediocre treatment, ie no MRI for a couple months. Ends up in chronic pain and is treated at Tripler. Transfers to current duty station last year in MD. Get's a spinal ablation at NNMC, still in pain. On oxy (big mistake) and tramidol. Has a new primary care doc that wants him off the oxy. In early November his primary care prescribes Chantix to stop smoking. He smokes 15 cigs a week. A week later, at work has a seizure. Lasts 3-4 mins and is taken to the local hosp. Get's a referral to Neuro at Walter Reed. Before he can get in, has another seizure 12/8. The local, non-military hospital put's him on Keppra, still no one adresses the Chantix issue. Get's another consult to NNMC for Neuro Surgery for back pain. See a GREAT neurosurgeon, see's no need for surgery, tells him it's the oxy that's extending his pain and agrees with me about the Chantix causing the seizure. Finally see nueuro at Walter Reed, without warning and alone at the appointment this wing nut drops the bomb that he'll be boarded out. Fast forward, his command get's involved. (he's a sailor of the year) and the neuro changes his diag, to a physical eval and the seizure to an "episode". This month his primary tells him it's "likely" he'll be discharged. An path I need to take would really help! A referral to an experience attorney in the DC area would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Jim
