Navy ADSEP Questions

Hello all,

Recently I was recommended for a routine administrative separation under MILPERSMAN 1910-120. I was diagnosed with AD and don't disagree with the prognosis as I have largely been unable to adapt to military culture and have had immense trouble stemming from it. I spent time in the psych ward after a suicide attempt and my psychiartist thought it was best to separate after further therapy appointments and a reviewal of my case. It is my understanding that I will not receive any VA benefits because AD is a CnD and I'm okay with that because I really just want to move on and begin living a healthy life again free of anxiety.

My question is though, should i expect any benefits (9 months in service total at time if adsep rec) and what kind of timeline should I expect to face? Will this be an honorable discharge or something else? I am not looking to 'hawk' benefits because I haven't served for long at all and don't really feel entitled to the programs, but I'd like to have an Honorable discharge because that will effect me for the rest of my life. I have had ZERO disciplinary problems and no NJPs/Masts/Consuelings whatsoever, but I'm worried that I won't receive an Honorable due to my discharge being an ADSEP for a CnD.

Has anyone been down this road before or have advice? How should I proceed and who should I reach out to? I'm not really getting a lot of info from my command and I just don't want to get processed out silently with no one having my back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

The decisions to accept an AD diagnosis is one that ought to be done with great thought. If acceptance is done ought of careful thought, then press on. But if it is a decision of convenience, then one should consider a double take. I would certainty consider asking for a second opinion. AD is over used and if it is is incorrect could deny you additional benefits.

The characterization of your service, depends on factors not expressed in you post. Read the reg you cited, paragraph 4. The characterization is based on you performance. If you have not been in misbehavior then you should expect an honorable discharge.

Post 9/11 benefits required 90 days of service. So if you discharge is anything other than dishonorable you should receive those VA benefits.

Does anyone know how long an adsep fro AD takes to process? Is there anyone I can contact to expedite the process?

From what I've read on hear either adseps for AD or discharges requiring MEB's can take a while, usually do to unnecessary holdups or bureaucratic red tape and I was wondering if people had experience with having to be your own personal advocate in the separation process. I'm happy with my diagnosis and the corresponding administrative action and am looking forward to feeling like myself again on the outside, something I don't often feel for very long or at all here. Should i just continue to communicate with BH and my chain of command? Possibly search out a JAG?

Open to all any any advice. Thanks.

Since you dont have a lot of time in it shouldnt be long but typically up to how bad the command wants you off their rolls lots of red tape paperwork back and forth for corrections held up most the adsep I pushed through.
