NARSUM, 7 days to sign??

Ok, like everyone, I'm new to this. I'm a 20 year Army Infantryman, been there done that. Now my narrative summary on my MEB sucks. MSG Todd Landen is my name by the way. I was given 7 days to sign my NARSUM over the long weekend, which gave me about a day to get in with the MEB outreach attorney. I'm not digging how this attorney is kinda just going through the numbers as often happens around here. fortunately, I have a civilian retained attorney for a seperate matter. My civilian attorney has 20 years as a JAG and is familiar with the MEB process. I'm wondering, but will be surprised if anyone knows, will this guy have the same pull as far as representation as the MEB outreach attorney as far as like suggesting extensions, which I am by the way. He is pretty pissed about how this place is treating me and is going to enlist the media soon. Great guy, amazing attorney but I'm an E8, not Trump. At 325 an hour, I cant afford too much more representation from him. I'm afraid I'm going to have too afford him however to ensure I am separated from Service with what I'm entitled too. Feel free to holler. todd.landen@us.army.mil

You can write your own appeal. I don't think they put any weight into the attorney that writes it. They are just required to look at the information presented. In my case, I let the MEB attorney write an appeal. At the same time I was doing research on my conditions and what I thought should be on my NARSUM. A couple of days later the MEB attorney had what he wrote and presented it to me. I bounced it off what I knew and ave it back to him with my thoughts. He edited and I submitted my appeal.

If you are uncomfortable with the advice you think you will get, you can always take his draft to your attorney to review. Your attorney should be able to offer you some advice without killing your pocket book. Take what your attorney said back to MEB counsel and ask him to modify his draft.

This can all be done in the time frame you describe. If you don't think it can, ask for an IPR to give you a little extra time and add some information.

That was unfair treatment, they are supposed to give you 10 days, not 7. You should have had ample time to get MEB JAG advice. Please contact your PEBLO and let them know you feel you were treated unfairly. I myself recieved my NARSUM on a 3 day, and they just gave me an extra day to ensure I had enough time. You should have received 2 extra days in all fairness.

you could also ask for a impartial review and the package get reviewed by another provider. Could help stall or give you time to get it reviewed right. Not sure if that great advice but it's all i can think of. Aslo talk to you PEBLO time frame is 10 days and if not given talk to Patient Advicate or OBUDSMEN(sp) AF we don't have the last one.

Yea my PEBLO tried to give me 5 days over a 3 day weekend to look over and sign my NARSUM. Then recieved my Changed NARSUM based off my Rebuttal over this 4 day weekend with 6 days to look over and sign it. It is really annoying.

Where does it state they have to give you 10 days? Would be nice to have the reg. that states that.

Landen, you can write your own rebuttal and MEB Counsel can help you and I really do not think it makes a difference who assisted you in writing it as far as weight of the document. As long as it is written properly and has valid reasons for what you explain they have to look into it.

below is a link to the IDES guide book as issued by MEDCOM. It is 7 days for a decision for agree/rebuttal/request IMR (section1-20 of the guidebook). I would request the IMR to buy yourself an extra week to get your rebuttal together. Remember they can bust timelines with no recourse, but if you bust a timeline you automatically agree even if the paperwork says PVT Snuffy on it.

Check this out, I'm an E8 and have already been an Infantry First Sergeant. So, my next rank is Command Sergeant Major. My E6, Warrior transition battalion squad leader, wants me to write my own retirement award. I'm just going to let him figure it out. He has my NCOERs and awards. Be good training for him. As a senior leader, we all know thats wrong. Hell anyone would know thats wrong.

I agree and disagree with you. Yes by the book he should write it, but he really doesn't know anything about you. You will end up with an inferior award that doesn't convey your very important contributions over the years. As an NCO and a warrant officer, I always wrote the first draft of all my NCOERs, OERs and awards. After that it becomes a negotiation when they put their spin on it.

We work with such a diverse and different group of leaders. If you did n't write your own stuff, there are many times during your career that report cards would have been less than stellar. In the end, it is in your best interest to be a very big part in writing these.

Remember, it is 7 calendar days, not duty days. Uou should always work with your PEBLO if it falls on a weekend or holidays etc...I usually work with my soldiers if that happens.

Agreed top. I had to write my retirement award but, at least, it got me an MSM!

Does anyone have copies of NCOERs bullet comments for people who are going through the MEB process? My leadership hasnt provided an NCOER for over a year because theyre not sure how to write one for someone going through the MEB process that is not assigned to a WTU.
