Ok broke down and submitted online SSDI application FINALLY right.

Anyway today I get a packet asking my work activity etc. Since this is a critical piece of the pie, how should i fill out the gotcha questions?

Hours at work are way different than hours worked etc. thent he big question about months worked where i earned an income? request voc rehab through SSDI or should I tell them I will potentially be applying for VA voc rehab?

My PCM today agreed that I should apply and told me should would have my RFC ready by tuesday/wednesday next week. I will have my Self report and my wife will have hers done by Monday as well. Thanks in Advance.

I am wondering about this topic too since I am wondering if I can apply for SSDI. I am currently working but have already been let go from one job for my seizure disability and my bi-weekly seizures are starting to affect my current position. I am wondering if I will even be eligible for SSDI.

Make sure that the hours you work are documented correctly because I have heard they check that information very carefully and can sometimes dismiss a case once or twice before actually approving the case. Good luck.

The hours at work are easy, I am limited to 6hr duty days and often work less with doctors appts etc included in. Plus the days I hurt to bad so i go home early or to the ER or do not go in at all.

If you are being laid off due to medical disabilities and can get your employer to state that you could apply for SSDI from my understanding BUT they still look to see if there is any job you can do in the state your in. regardless if you have ever done it, are trained it it etc.

you need to be under 5 hours work a week. Double check before you fill up the forms. I am 100% VA and with 4 hours a day profile and was denied first time but I never appealed. Good luck

That seems fishy considering the number of folks here who have been approved while still going to work. I think I read somewhere that since I am not "working" I am just going to work I can claim 0 dollars earned for work but not sure. I think I might just show up to the SS office with my profiles, self reports my surgery notes, my rfc's and my other documents they requested on hand and get them to help me. I know I am disabled just trying to avoid the never ending hassles, especially when there are so many that cheat the system, How can i make sure I am Honest but to the point and prove what my doctors are telling me.

Yup very important links, unfortunately I have not been able to find what I was asking in either place.
(oh and for anyone reading this the wounded warriors apply online button is just the default application, there is no special application for us.)
I think I am just gonna make an appt with my counselor and see what they have to say. I think if i spend a few minutes with her, they will see my disability and be helpful (i hope).

Hello all, I have done SSDI in one shot no issues. But I did not get any back pay for on set of medical issues.
If your AD or on orders in the MEB process its easy, you will need either your p3 ref you to the MEB or your Narsum.
Also some guy's I know have been denied because they have held jobs before joining the Military. My dumb guess would be if you have never held a job before joining your good, this was the case with myself. I also had a good friend walk the dog on the mailed packet before I sent it back to SSDI. You have two options apply at your local SSA office or apply under the wounded warrior button on the site. Some say its quicker to apply in person than online. My time line online was June the 6th and I was approved in Sept with a pay date of Dec first check comes in Jan. You must show proof you are a military id card holder, so it might be best you just go to the local office and apply. Just when it come's to work hours stay under 8 a day with limited standing or sitting and lifting! Hope this helps some what!

TSgt Twitch,
I started mine less than 30 days prior to leaving AD. When I got the packet in the mail, I walked it to the local office which was very crowded. I then drove to a small town nearby and walked in without an appt and asked for help. They tried to send me away and I stated that AD military had priority. This stopped everything and I was seen shortly after. A very good lady walked me through everything and only took my FPEB findings, MH records, one page stating I had osteoporosis & fracture spine, and commanders letter. I told them not to call them (commander and supervisor) and they stated they would get the rest of my med records which they didn't because at best it takes 6 weeks and I have well over 2500 pages. There is definitely a connection with hours worked but she was asking about percentage of work for me, also consider deployments, PT, and anything required by the military. I gave a number like 50% and she kepted working me until I went low like 10-20%. I don't know what she put down in the end because my commander letter stated that it took 1 1/2 people to correct all the mistakes I made through out everyday, never seen them and I'm sure I would have seen the half of a person. I was wrong in the pass, they do withhold the first 5 months of benefits, found my paperwork. My case was approved in approx 30 days because of the very strong evidence and I believe going in in person. I did get back paid for one year and it would have been more but they could only do the one year. The 5 month was covered in the period before the one year back pay.
Good Luck

I tried to file for SSDI online and got hit with a lot of questions and other forms that I needed to submit. I figured I would just wait until I get out and go file in person too. Great information here, thanks!!

It was actually fairly easy, i filled out the packet they sent and took a bunch of docs down there. The lady was insistant that my income was the determining factor and not my work activity, but i showed here the SS regulation governing it and she changed her tune and took all my stuff. So we shall see.

Once off active duty you lose the priority in line treatment.

From a SSDI lawyer (my friend's wife) viewpoint, staying under 20 hours/week is their magic number. Up to 23 hours they may still take the case, but beyond that their firm doesn't like to take cases. Compensation has no bearing on service members applications. This is one area that the SSA's employees tend to make mistakes. They don't understand you can be working 0 hours, but still receive pay. Since it's military specific they're not used to that being the case. This is why when you complete the application it is imperative that they know you're active duty......otherwise they deny it based on receiving compensation.

Just go into the process expecting to be denied once or twice. This can help alleviate some of the frustrations. I saw numbers recently where over 50% are denied first time around. By the 2nd level of appeal, in front of the Judge, of those 50% that were previously denied over 70% are awarded benefits. This means about 75-85% of people who apply receive benefits if they fight to the end.

Well, I included supervisor and CC letters designating my 25 hour limited duty, and in the notes and copies of my convalescent leave forms/quarters slips showing 138 days missed in the last 365 and noted the multiple doctors appointments and that i do pretty much nothing and what little admin work I do has to be reviewed by leadership etc. hopefully that on top of the actual disabilities/films/medication lists and self report I will get lucky the second time and not have to do the judge, It took so much out of me just applying the first time pride wise, I dunno how i would react in front of a judge. Not easy to not "man up" when hid your injuries from the doctors for 7 years.

Sounds like you have a strong case. Just make sure SSA receives all your records. Sometimes they will deny based on not receiving records in sufficient time. Some of the MTF's are fast while others are slow at processing them. Side note, sometimes a law firm can have the Judge review your case before the hearing so you don't have to appear.

Yeah, I figured on being denied once or so, but i felt it important to "secure my date" so to speak. I am not super concerned yet, MEB has just started due to all my complications etc., but I always try to be ahead of the ball game on everything.
