My timeline - Knee problems, USMC

Talked to my PEBLO today. He got an email about my case yesterday and it is being processed at the PEB in DC. I will hear my percentages no later than Friday and will be cut retirement/separation orders shortly afterward, depending on the amounts. I decided that I will accept whatever the amounts are and if they are unfavorable I will seek corrections as a veteran.

My current command climate is extremely poor, my SNCO has taken it upon himself to attempt to make me miserable at work and off duty; it has only gotten worse after I informed him of the unfit finding. Also the timing will coincide perfectly with my school plans as it will put my terminal leave ending right before the fall semester starts; I need the Yellow Ribbon program or else I will be forced to take out a serious amount of student loans until I am no longer active duty. I wish I know what it was like to have a competent and supportive CoC. Only one time in my career I could claim full confidence and trust that my superiors have my back.

If you don't mind me asking...what hospital are you going through for the process? I'm just wondering if it is a certain medical center that is taking a long time, or if it's something else.

I'm going through a clinic on base, not a hospital. The only part that took longer than expected was the MEB portion since my clinic lost my package. Most of the wait is between the PEB in DC, and the VA. Typically the medical center that is processing your case has very little involvement. They only do the NARSUM and MEB portions. Everything else is outside of that hospital.

Ok, I get it. I was just curious. I was wondering where your PEBLO was at. My case is going through Balboa for the PEBLO/MEB, etc. I'm out in the middle of nowhere on recruiting so my situation has been a learning experience.

Ok it's either:
A. Our timeline is not far with yours and we will see same result in process or close. (Navy/Marine)
B. You are very good buddies with someone at the VA.
C. Someone at your clinic is very good buddies with someone at the VA.
D. All of the above
E. Some of the above.
F. None of the above.

I've been talking to someone else that I know and he is on about the exact same timeline as me. His ratings are done through Providence as well and he is waiting on PEB approval. I think the VA might have changed which cases they process first. My congressional inquiry probably helped speed things along though; nothing lights a fire under people's collective asses than a Senator going "WTF!?"

Hmmm well played sir, well played....so my next question which may require a pm/inbox is how does one go about "lighting the fire" by way of a Senator?

Is he waiting on PEB approval to go to VA or coming from VA?

Received my findings today. 10% DoD/ 40% VA.

I received 10% for my knee. I was expecting this since I have full flexion/extension, but have painful motion. According to the regulations(also spoke with an IDES attorney) painful motion is a flat 10%.

30% for Pes Planus.
0% for post-op scarring. This was rated so it may increase in the future(don't see how it will tbh).

I go back Monday to accept the ratings and will start all of the requirements to out process. I should have 65 days of terminal leave and 20 days PTAD. There is a new MARADMIN out regarding separation PTAD. MARADMIN 170/14 section F details that service members getting separated through the IDES system are authorized those 20 days. Hopefully the EAS they set for me will be at the end of July. That will allow me to use all 85 days and be off active duty before the semester starts so I can use the Yellow Ribbon Program.

What i also heard you can do when using your 20 days PTDY is use them Mon-Fri and not count the weekends. (unless it's that way anyways). That would stretch out for 4 weeks...I know someone who just recently did this, it may or may not work like every other inconsistent thing in the Military.

I just read that MARADMIN today regarding PTAD for involuntarily separated members...I guess that is good news, now they have to give us the 20 on top of whatever we are carrying on the books.

StephenG - Did MOL ever show Your medical board case has been accepted by the PEB for action? If so, when did that change to duty status code "Y" compared to your IDES process? Mine just changed today or the 17th is when it was put in the system, but I am attempting to see if it means anything.

Yes it has. It did it three times and it is seemingly random. I would call the VA hotline to see if there is a decision pending approval on your case. Once they say that then the PEB will process it a week or two later. The only thing that I would trust MOL to say is the updated EAS. If you don't feel like calling the VA hotline you can call your VA rep; most are good at getting concrete answers. Your PEBLO won't be able to tell you anything until they get a notice from the PEB. Usually when they are notified that the case is back in the PEB's hands it takes that week for the PEB to finalize the ratings. PM me if you want answers to detailed questions about my case or things to expect in general.

I signed/accepted my findings unconditionally today. My PEBLO said to wait about a week for my EAS to update. I called MMSR-4 and they explained the process to me—hearing the process makes me empathize with civilians from all the acronyms and jargon. I figure I'm gonna call next week to see if they have an update. Taking my built up leave into account, I will be EAS'ing at the end of June or July. If it is June I will check out on terminal immediately following the checkout process. July would have me take PTAD congruently with my terminal and I would be out May 4th. I will update my timeline when my EAS updates.

Still waiting on MMSR-4 to process my EAS (how long could it take, I did the calculation in under a minute). I did have a Lumbar Sympathetic Block yesterday though and oh my god is it an amazing feeling being without pain(mostly). The procedure wasn't the most comfortable but once they were done injecting the medication I hardly had any pain. It didn't remove my pain completely as I cannot do more than normal daily activities without pain and I have to be intelligent with limiting myself as it is easy for me to injure my knee. This is such an amazing relief to be mostly pain free without being electrocuted by a TENS unit or doped up on opiates; I actually feel normal.

Contacted MMSR-4 today and they have a DIARY entry for me today. They currently have my EAS set to August 30, 2014. I asked that if they can make the final day July 30, 2014 as the August date will make me ineligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program. I am counting on at least $16,000 of financial aid from the Yellow Ribbon Program this year and the July 30th date will allow me to use that; the August 30 will not.

I spoke to my company office and they said to put in a routing sheet and it will be expedited to the Battalion CO tomorrow and it should be resolved before Friday. I also have a CO's interview for my DD Form 2958 to be signed off on Friday morning. If I don't hear anything by Friday I will bring it up. If everything works out with the Battalion Commander I should be on terminal leave this Sunday. Nothing is ever easy in this process...

i thought that you had to set a retirement/separation date up to 90 days out? That's almost 120.

I thought the same as well...

I have the recommendation from the Bn CO. I get my copy today at 1300 and I am in contact with someone at MMSR-4. Should have the July 30 date in Unit Diary before the end of the day. This headache is finally over.

Finally got done fighting with admin on giving me my terminal/PTAD. I pick up my DD-214 Monday the 12th at 8AM. I have to sell 9.5 days of leave because of their resistance. It was like pulling teeth for them to actually process my paperwork.
