So from what I have gathered, if you are retired (<30% dod) you get out on the 28th of the month. Does anyone know if this also is for separating or can my orders be on any date of the month ?
Thanks

Your final day will get calculated using factors such as leave and permissive TDY. Since the VA payments are calculated from the 1st of the month (following the month you are released) it is in your best interest to be released near the end of the month. By released, I am talking about the date on your DD214. Your become eligible for VA benefits the day after you are discharged on your DD214.

Good info above by gsfowler.

The first accrual of VA compensation is the month following the month having the effective date.

Example one: discharged 17 October; VA comp effective 18 October; first accrual of VA comp 1-30 November; first payment 1 December (unless holiday or weekend).

Example two: Discharged 30 June; VA comp effective 1 July; first accrual of VA comp 1-31 August; first payment 1 September (unless weekend or holiday).

Thank you both, I am not concerned with va payment... just my actual separation date and when I should expect that to be. Will it be just any random day? I have very little leave.

Chapter 61 (disability) discharges can occur on any day of a particular month.

Regular retirements always occur on the first day of a particular month.
Example: discharged/separated 31 July; enters a retired status 1 August.

!3 years ago, the command allowed me to choose my discharge date within a 30-90 window. Perhaps it may be worth the ask.

Chapter 61 (disability) discharges can occur on any day of a particular month. If a retirement is involved, it is the next day.

Unfortunately, that isn’t an option any more. I wish it was!! I have already asked, even went as far as calling PERS. Nothing

Did you receive a separation date yet?
