MEB recommended separate, want to stay in

USMC Major, 14 years of AD. Developed a blood clot in leg a year ago. They had to put stents in and I now take blood thinners. No LIMDU and passed all PFA's since (run 3 miles a day). Work statement says "able to conduct all duties normally." Very high command support. Want to stay in and very worried I'm going to be found unfit and separated. Doctors said everything would be fine and I was blindsided when MEB came back with non-retention recommendation.

MEB said genetic predisposition condition existed prior to entry but was aggravated by military service.

Submitting the within-5-day appeal to the MEB recommendation. Any advice? Should I hire an outside lawyer?

Thanks in advance!

As for the pre existing condition I do not think it will matter because you have been in more then 7 Years. I believe after 7 years it is automatic that it will be service connected.

As for the Drs recommendation to separate. I am not sure what to say about this. I know in the AF the Legal Counsel will not even speak to you during the MEB and I do not know if there is a way for the Lawyer to even speak to the MEB since it is all local level.

MEB makes a medical recommendation. PEB makes the retention/non-retention decision. Has the Informal PEB made a decision. If the IPEB makes a non-retention decision, I'd hire a lawyer. Six more years will make a big difference in retirement income.

Thanks for those responses. Obviously I want to get this over with as soon as possible so I'm submitting the rebuttal and hopefully later the IPEB says "retention". I don't just want to retire, but to continue my career and exceed 20 if possible.

What ended up happening?
