MEB Question/19 yrs Active Duty

I have been reading many of the post to try and answer my questions on my own. However, I wanted to get some feed back from those that are further along in the process than me. I have been in 19 yrs 2 months Active Duty and fear with my timeline below I may not make it to 20 next summer.

Time line remote assignment
19 May Return from treatment for PTSD/MDD/Anxiety
23 May Referred to AFW2
28 May DAWG (31)
28 Jun Awarded 2AFSC 9W300
14 Jul NARSUM signed
18 Jul CC received CC letter
26 Jul CC met w Provider
6 Aug PEBLO submitted records to AFPC
7 Aug 2AFSC changed to 9W200
15 Aug Notified AFPC decision full MEB
20 Aug Submitted AMTU req

With that I am also trying to stay optimistic but research all areas...one thing I have not been able to nail down the the potential pay difference between the two and the likely hood of me making it at least to mid Feb where I can use leave to get me out to 20.

Any advice/tips/information you all can provide?
Thanks in advance!

If the Informal PEB, recommend retirement then appeal to Foraml PEB. If Formal PEB recommends retirement appeal to SECAF. The appeal to SECAF will likely take you past 20.

@chaplaincharlie I was told by my OAC that as of July 15 the appeals process doesn't allow for SECAF appeals, it goes IPEB, FPEB, LAS.

Honestly, this process is super fast. By the time I’m out the service my process will be exactly 7 months. I didn’t do any appeals or anything. So I suggest to you. If you want to reach the magic number of 20 years try all of your appeals. Just my 2 cents and opinion. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to stay positive.

I just read on another post that all your conditions get considered by DoD at some point in the process even if not in your NARSUM. Has anyone had success with this? The reason I ask is when my NARSUM was created they only used my MH items and noting from my PCM despite being on profile for back, shoulder and feet issues for past 3-4 years. I was quite surprised when I got to read my NARSUM.

Computations of retired pay, CH 61 retiree less than 20 years active duty.

1.The multiplier percentage is at the option of the member who may chose either the percentage of DoD disability assigned or the years of creditable service times 2.5%. In either case, the multiplier is limited to 75% by law. In the case of a member on the TDRL (Temporary Disability Retired List), the minimum percentage is 50% while on the TDRL.

2. The basic retirement formula is:

Retired Pay Base X Multiplier %

The retired pay base for a qualified disability retirement is determined under the high-36 month method, which is the average of the highest 36 months of pay.

3. Example of case where the retiree has 19 years active duty and the service approved 50% disability retirement.
--18 x 2.5% = 47.5% which is lower than the 50% approved by the service.
--Average of the highest 36 months of base pay $xxxxx x 50% = DoD disability retired pay

4. In the case of a CH 61 retiree with less than 20 years active duty:

--The retired pay would be reduced by the amount of VA compensation received.
EXAMPLE: 3000 VA and 2000 retired pay. Retired pay 2000 minus 3000 amt of VA comp = zero retired pay remaining
--Approved CRSC could replace some of the lost/waived retired pay.

5. In the case of a CH 61 retiree with 20 years or more active duty:
--The retired pay would be reduced by the amount of VA compensation received.
--EXAMPLE: 3000 VA and 2000 retired pay. Retired pay 2000 minus 3000 amt of VA comp = zero retired pay remaining
--This retiree is eligible for CRDP if VA rating is 50% or more. CRDP restores waived longevity retired pay.
--The longevity portion of retired pay is (years of creditable service AD x 2.5%) x (high-36 month average base pay) = longevity portion of retired pay
--CRSC if approved, would be an option; however, CRSC and CRDP cannot be paid simultanously.

First save up leave, how much terminal leave will you have? Second, appeal at every level, from narsum rebuttal and IMR to FPEB, take your full 10 days to sign and then nonconcur at every level. File a VARR... appeal at every level. This process can take over a year if you appeal at every level.
