Hi all I am currently going through MEB for the 3rd time long for lower back pain. I have never met my PEBLO, my info is never updated on AKO and anytime I see or speak to my contact rep I never get any solid info. So here is my issue I completed C&P exam 17 July 13, spoke with MEB doc 22 July 13 she stated she completed NARSUM and it is ready to sign, I went in to meb office contact rep stated she had not received it and that they could call me in 3-4 weeks. Im so confused and need advice on what I should do, I don't get any help from contact rep or PEBLO (which I've never met). Also what happens after my NARSUM is signed.? I know I've said alot but I just want a better understanding on the process.

Hi, I can try to shed some light from my experience with the process of the meb. It has taken me 6 months through this process to get my Narsum. I finished my C&P exams 1 July 13 and I received my Narsum via email on 24 July 13. They say 3 to 4 weeks but you will probably get it this week hopefully. This is when you look the Narsum over and see if your happy with the unfitting conditions they listed. If your not happy with it then that's when you appeal and request an IMR. If your happy with it you sign and give it back to your peblo. Make sure your commanders statement and les, erb is within 6 months or they will have to redo it for your packet. Then peblo sends it off to the PEB which will decide if your fit or unfit for duty. I hope this helps.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Any updates in reference to the processing of your DoD IDES case file?

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Yesterday I was told the doc that is writing my NARSUM is out of town and they do no know when she will be back to work. I'm so annoyed I feel like I'm back at square 1.

Furlough, furlough, furlough. I did my exams all on the 3rd of July and was told that my NARSUM would be completed and ready for me last week. Last Friday I was told that it was going to be ready for me at the end of this week and that it was completed, waiting for physician's signatures and approval. Going back to my first statement...FURLOUGH. It sucks and I am in the same boat as well. My PEBLO is actually pretty good...so far, and lets me know right off the bat that the process is going to take longer due to the "powers that be" being off one day of the week and their offices working at half staff for 2 days out of the week.

Anyways, keep us posted!

Thank you all for the responses & help. I will keep you all up to date as I receive info

Just received an email from my PEBLO that my NARSUM is complete and can be signed tomorrow.

Well, all right; it's about time! :)

Congratulations and good deal! :D

Moreover, I would offer that you thoroughly review the NARSUM and its supporting documentation/attachments with the assistance of a SMEBC attorney. ;)

Thank you! I will most definitely seek MEB counsel!

You are welcome! :)

Forward march, then drive on! ;)

...and here I am still waiting. Well, congrats! Be sure to let us know how accurate the NARSUM is. Form what I've read here, it's hit or miss.

It was actually accurate took it straight to MEB Counsel and all the info matched my records. Now for the wait game AGAIN

Outstanding; this is a very good news referencing the NARSUM! :)

Therefore, good job and kudos to your DoD IDES MEB dictating physician! ;)

Good deal! I've heard good news about the NARSUM from 2 people in the past couple weeks. Me, I'm still waiting and praying that mine is on target as well.

Hello all
I am just getting started in all of this. I was told that they are sending me thru the MEB process. Just a little back ground I am a National Guard soldier, that works as a Dual Status Technician. With that said, I have to be in the Guard to have my job. I have been depolyed to Iraq twice and have been evaluated thru the VA and rated at 100%.

So my unit just finished all of my LOD's to send to the board. I have no idea wht to expect next, no one has explained it to me.

Wow! In my opinion, this is totally unacceptable action by your military medical leadership! :(

In an effort to provide you with some background information about the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process, I offer the following via an U.S. Army perspective:

After referral into the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process by your military PCM who initiated a permanent physical profile with PULHES of 3 or 4 in any one category, the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) who has approval authority for DoD IDES MEB referrals shall review the originally PCM-initiated permanent physical profile request.

Upon acceptance into the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process, during the MEB Phase is when all of your medical conditions are reviewed to determine which are "medically unacceptable" or "medically acceptable" conditions.

To that extent, the MEB Physician is supposed to review all applicable medical condition(s) associated with a PULHES category of 3 or 4 in the AHLTA EMR database system, and then make an informed objective medical evidence determination to either maintain, down select, or upgrade the specific category code in the PULHES.

Upon approval by the DoD IDES MEB Physician(s) at the MTF of the PCM-initiated permanent physical profile referral, the MEB Physician shall either generate a new permanent physical profile with updated PULHES (most favorable course of action in my opinion) or transpose the PCM-initiated permanent physical profile with PULHES as written (least favorable course of action in my opinion).

In continuation of the DoD IDES process, a Narrative Summary (NARSUM) is dictated after receipt of the DoVA C&P Examination results which outlines in detail all medically unacceptable and medically acceptable conditions. It's unknown what type of C&P Exam clinician you will get on the day(s) of the evaluation. In my opinion, some DoVA C&P Examination clinicians are good-to-go while others seem not to care about the military service member.

With that said, you may receive good or bad results from either of the aforementioned type of DoVA C&P Exam clinicians; there are no guarantees. Depending on the type of C&P Exam, the clinician will just ask a lot of questions and/or perform a physical evaluation.

If the MEB determines that medically unacceptable conditions exist, then the IDES case file is forward to the PEB for a fit for duty or unfit for duty determination.

If the PEB determines any unfit medical conditions, then the IDES case file is forward to the DoVA D-RAS for ratings of all PEB referred unfitting conditions (e.g., DoD disability rating(s)) and all DoVA claimed conditions. It's important to note that DoD must adopt the DoVA D-RAS rating(s) for each PEB-referred unfitting condition(s).

Upon receipt of the IPEB findings inclusive of DoD and DoVA proposed ratings, the DA Form 199 (or similar Service specific document) is generated. When the DA Form 199 (or similar Service specific document) is finally signed [e.g. after resolution of a PEB appeal/review and/or an one-time VA Rating Reconsideration (VARR) request, if warranted], then it's forwarded to the Transition Point Processing System (TRANSPOC) II.

Moreover, TRANSPOC II performs transition processing functions in which it generates the DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release from Active Duty or Discharge) document, and schedules the generation of retirement/separation orders from US Military.

By the way, I believe it's remains a good idea to seek the point of contact information of the medical healthcare providers who informed you of "I was told they are sending me thru the MEB process" and also ask them a lot of IDES questions until your official acceptance into the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process and assignment of a PEBLO. ;)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

hello everyone! ok here is my question I have been going through the MEB process since march of 2013. I am currently in korea. I have went to the VA for my exams got c&p exam package back signed my Narsum. My records are at AFPC waiting for a fit or unfit they have been there since july 10th. How long does it take for them to come up with a decision? and after I am found unfit how much longer could the rest of the process take? I am already already 4 months past my DEROS so any info I would appreciate it thanks.

Usually it only takes a week or two for the fitness decision. However, many here have reported they did not receive their unfit memo. You need to check with your PEBLO. As far as the rest of the process, the wait for VA ratings can be anywhere from 2-6 months on average, and much longer for others. It depends on a lot of factors completely outside of our control.

I didn't receive an unfit memo either but I did find out that it took the IPEB at AFPC 119 days to do my unfit memo. My package went to AFPC on 27 March 2013 and my unfit was done on 24 Jul 2013. After you are unfit then you have to wait on the VA to assign your ratings and get them back to the IPEB so they can apply them to your conditions on your AF356. How much time you have left really depends on whether or not you want to appeal to the formal board, or ask for a ratings reconsideration from the VA.
