Do you know why it took so long from when you signed your PEB paperwork to them receiving it? My PEBLO told me they have 45 days to send the findings. I know they just changed the policy Oct 1 to speed up the process but that's a huge window for yours. Thanks

No, I have no idea. But around that time my orginal PEBLO quit or left his position. So the submission may have been delayed. I knew the process takes a long time so I was just waiting.

Oh ok that makes sense. Did they go off rating for just the referred condition or was it overall percentage rating from the VA? I've had different surgeries and had a lot of claimed items for the VA but I'm worried that the referred condition won't bet the required 30% rating. I also have 3 addendums for other conditions but I don't know if they using the rating for that as well. Any idea?

VA will rate all conditions, referred and claimed. The DOD will pull the % of your referred conditions only for your DOD rating and the VA will give you a proposed rating which includes referred and claimed conditions.

Yes, I took my full 20 days PTAD and I was lucky to have enough time to be able to take all the leave I had saved for terminal.

I am just now starting my own MEB process. In regards to TERA and VA Disability would you receive both? I am currently at 18 years and while I may make it to 19 with this process I have a good job lined up and was wondering if I would receive both-or not.

So if you're at 18yrs it doesn't matter what the DOD rating is. Most important part is your wanna be found unfit for duty. Then once you get the ratings back you'll waive it and request TERA which will get approved. Then you'll get retirement pension plus VA Disability. If you just get medically retired you won't get both. You wanna TERA in order to get both.

How far out would you be able to push the retirement date? If I have for example an EAS of DEC 21 and everything wraps up say around December of 20. Could I plan a retirement date anywhere in between those dates?

Anyone who can get a TERA retirement should do so, this qualifies you for CRDP, aka concurrent receipt of being th military retirement pension and VA compensation with no offset.

if you take the Chapter 61 medical retirement, your VA and DOD pay will be offset, and you’ll lose a lot of money even though you might receive 70% DOD pension.

For me personally taking a ch61 vs TERA means it cost me 1500 a month. The Army was only offering TERA to officers who had been passed over for promotion twice that had between 15 and 20 years.

I am glad you posted that info.

1. An individual can qualify for CRDP with a medical retirement IF they also qualify for another type retirement. However, I wonder IF a service would grant TERA while they are processing an individual for disability retirement. I have never seen such a case.
2. Excerpt from DFAS:
Requirements for CRDP, selected text:
  • you are retired under Temporary Early Retirement Act (TERA) and have a VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.
  • you are a disability retiree who earned entitlement to retired pay under any provision of law other than solely by disability, and you have a VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. You might become eligible for CRDP at the time you would have become eligible for retired pay.
3. The Army no longer is granting TERA; I do not know about the USMC.

Good luck,
Ron

I believe the MARADMIN for the USMC stated that TERA was authorized, if waiving PEB results, until 2025 or 2027 so we should still be doing it for awhile.
