Hi,
It's been hard to find any resources to educate myself on this process, as everyone I've talked to hasn't experienced much of med boards.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia amongst other items and diagnosis' and am currently overseas on an Air National Guard activation for a few year tour. Our home base is on mainland. Medical care has been a massive struggle, and in best case scenarios can see my PCM once every 6 months.
When I last saw my rheumatologist when they diagnosed me, they offered up a med board, but due to my drive to stay in and serve, told me to come back if things wosrten and we can reevaluate. I've 5 years in the service. This was last fall and I've been chasing answers/a diagnosis for 3 years. Since then my life and fibro has gotten increasingly unbearable to where I no longer feel comfortable to committing to an active working output. I plan on "initiating" a med board when I finally get to see my PCM next month.
My command knows everything and is supportive of however things go. All I've been told is the med board process starts, I get put on a specific medcon orders while the process occurs, will not be able to work while on orders, and will either get medically retired or can return to duty with restrictions.
Any info anybody may have on the Air Guard process would be greatly appreciated. Such as when orders are cut and by who, chronic illness timelines, and how that affects my work. Living like this has been hard and I just want support/answers. I am happy to provide additional answers for questions and clarification.
Thank you!
