Married

What if you get married during MED board process. I’ve been engaged for quite some time now. I’ve called it off many times not wanting to get my fiancé involved. I guess my question is if I were to get married finally during this process would it effect my process at all? I already got my ratings (50% dod 80% va) I put in a rebuttal and that appt is sept 1st so I can be out pretty soon. Any opinions or inputs. Anything is useful. Thank you!

It would not effect DoD retirement/separation pay. It would effect VA pay.

You will have to take the marriage certificate to your DoD personnel folks. This will get your spouse in DEERS and allow you to get your spouse and ID card and thereby medical care.

Once your VA claim is complete. You can go to the VA via E-benefits and change your marital status and upload a copy of your marriage license. This will increase the $ amount of your VA compensation a little.

What if we got married once I got out? How would I set up tricare and all that? Would it be the same steps as uploading the VA benefits?

When you get married you will have to present your filed license at the nearest installation to get your spouse in DEERS and get an ID card. You would have to change your TriCare premium to family to get her covered. You can find the nearest place at:

VA remains the same.
