Is anyone else out there taking Lexapro?
I have been on it for almost a year with no noticable benefit. I am currently at 20mg per day.

right here bro,

20mg twice/day for about a year. i was on cymbalta for like a year, but i don't know. the s#!thead MH doc that i was seeing @ the naval clinic upped my lexapro to 30 mg/day and added buspbar, but i didn't like her so i stopped seeing her and stopped the meds. my civ. PCM just kept me on the 20 mg lexapro since then. i'm going to be starting @ the VA's PTSD clinic soon so i'll see what changes are coming. but overall im the same as you when it come to knowing if it helps not.

do you go to counseling? i go once a week @ one of my local VA's veteran's centers. i love it! i will deffinately bring up the issue w/the meds. when i get my VA referral for the PTSD clinic, so i will keep you posted.

merry x-mas and happy holidays!

Thanks for the reply Robs42. I would like to try a VA program, I just don't want to drive the 3 hours. I do go to counseling. I hate it! I swear we could just sit there for the 45 minutes and stare at each other. He asks "How are you? What's on your mind today?" When I ask him a question, he responds with a question... "Well how do YOU feel about it?" I am afraid one day I will answer him honestly and tell him that I want to beat him until I am winded, take a break, then beat him some more!
There is a small local VA clinic that offers a video conferrence for a one-on-one mental health. Something about that just doesn't sit right with me.
I would love to hear about your once-a-week and your upcoming clinic experience.
Good luck to you! I hope you find the R&R you need.

dbltap,

are there any of the VA's veterans centers by you, since the VA is 3hrs away. have you asked if they can referr you out? i would also bring up the point about the drive and current situation stressing you out. you can also change doctors if they are not a good fit for you. i know many people who keep changing until they find someone they work well with. that's why i started to go to the vet's center, because the AD naval clinic wouldn't referr me out so i went there and i love it. if you havent here's the link to find one nearest you:

BTW, i'm just starting to notice that the 20mg lexapro is starting to lose it's effectiveness. i was on cymbalta prior to that same thing happened.

This thread is over a year old, but for the benefits of someone else who may be having problems with Lexapro, I am posting this reply. As a Psych. clinician, I am perhaps more qualified to post an opinion. Lexapro is a very good drug for depression, it will lift your mood significantly if that is your diagnosis. However, if your problem is chronic dysthymia (long term sadness/low mood), then your Psych. Doc need to put you on other suitable drugs. There are heaps in the market for these. Also, Lexapro is will known for eventually developing tolerance on the body, i.e. your body gets used to this drug that it eventually ceases to have any effects on the patient, no matter how high the dose. When this happens, time to make an appt. with the Psych. and negotiate a change in meds. Don't be afraid to fire your Doc if she/he won't work with you. It is your (broken) mind that you are trying to fix. Fight for it.
