I am curious if anyone knows how long the legal review process should take. I am finished and accepted the boards decision. I have been temporarely retired with a disability rating of 70%. I have been waiting about a month now and no word from legal review yet. Does anyone know how long it can take to recieve orders?

Hello fellow Coastie. I was told that they allow themselves 90 days from your acceptance to the discharge date. I believe that they hold pretty close to that. PERSCOM did tell me in some extreme circumstances they can cut orders in a week. Don't know what they are.
How long did it take for you to get a decision from the board? The board received my package for my AS on June 02, and I am still waiting. If you don't mind me asking, what did they rate you for? Congratulations on the 70%.

I'm an MK2 and I've been in the Coast Guard for 10 years. I injured my knee while conducting a boarding on a freight ship offshore March 2004. I've been on light duty since. I have had 5 surgeries for one of them was a High Tibial Osteotomy that didnt correct the probems with my knee. The Doctors tell me I'm too young for a knee replacement and want for me to wait a few more years. The last surgery July 8 2008 was basically exploratory surgery for a possibe meniscal transplant. The Ortho told me that a meniscal transplant would not fix my knee is to badly damaged. ( he say if he did the transplant it would be like putting the meniscus throught a grinder) and that the best thing for me is a career change. He said to treat my knee like glass and manage the pain for as long as I can.
I got the narrative and the med board was started.
Here is what the med board says (I agree with the assessment that PO___________ is unable to perform shipboard duties due to his eft knee medial meniscal bucket-handle tear post debridement, and grade 3-4 chondromalacia and he should avoid exacerbating activities. Given that exacerbating activities are difficult for srvice members to avoid, it is recomended that PO_______ be medically retired from the Coast Guard.)
Now I'm just waiting for the email or call for the final results and % from the IMEB. I currently have chronic pain and can not run or walk long distances. I have a hard time sleeping at night due to my knee pain.
Does any one know what % I should expect and how long the process takes.
