Just got my Unfit Memo from my PEBLO

I just got my unfit memo from my peblo this morning..it stated the following conditions unfitting:


Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Delusional disorder (MEB Dx 1 and 2) (V1-Yes; V3-Yes; V4-Yes)

Can anyone explain to me what the V1, V3, and V4 stand for?


And the following condition was found to be fitting: Eating Disorder......since it was fitting, does this mean I will not get compensation for this condition? and only the two conditions found unfitting?

Lastly, is there anyway to derive what possible ratings I may receive from the memo? I am just wanting to financially plan for my future, there is a big difference in compensation in say....30% VA comp and say 70%....I say 70% because I would be willing to bet I would not get over that anyway....I'm thinking I would maybe get 50% at best...but who knows haha

The VA will rate everything that falls under the VASRD. The DOD will only rate those things that are found unfitting. This is why everyone will have a rating posted like xx% DOD / xx% VA (or overall). For instance, I was 10% DOD, 80% VA.

As far as percentages, as you will find, very few here will venture a guess. WAY too many variables without all the facts.

I'll let others explain the V1/2/3/4 stuff as mine did not incur nor was aggravated by combat, so I did not spend much time researching the extra benefits that come with those things and don't want to give you false information.

Not necessarily for ratings purposes. But if condition is combat related, any compensation received for it is tax free and makes you one step closer to being eligible for CRSC.

There's no way to determine ratings from an unfit memo...however, if PEB determines the PTSD to be unfitting (appears that will likely happen), it's a minimum of 50% for PTSD.

Thanks for the reply. That is 50% from the VA or 50% from the Army? I have read that minimum for PTSD is 50% but then I see some people getting 10% and 30% for PTSD..what is that about?

also, I looked at a calculated for CRSC on the DFAS website...it looks like it is a small amount of money, around $140 for a 60% CRSC rating..unless you get 100% CRSC, that would be around $500 for me....is this correct? or is there another calculator I do not know about?
 
Again--if PTSD is determined to be unfitting by PEB, minimum 50% for VA and Army. If PTSD is determined to be fitting by PEB, rating can be from 0-100% (although, most likely would be 40 or lower).

With IDES, Army/DoD assigns whatever ratings the VA determines for all unfitting conditions.

Yes, the DFAS website CRSC calculator is accurate and the source I would use to verify amounts.
 
ahh okay, that answers my question exactly...I wasn't aware that PTSD could even be a fitting condition...that is why I was confused as to why some people were saying they were getting 10% and 30%.
 
PTSD can be determined as a fitting condition by the PEB, in which case you would not get a rating from the DoD. The varying ratings you've heard are on the VA side.

Would be better for you to start your own thread, but I will answer here;

You were found unfit for PTSD, the PTSD is combat related, and occurred while you were entitled to basic pay.
The VA will use the VASRD to apply ratings to your case and if greater than 30% you will be retired, if less than 30% you will be severanced ( of course you could fight to stay in if thats a possibility). Typically after the new laws of 2010 I believe if PTSD is found to be unfitting the minimum rating will be 50% but you will be placed on Temporary Retirement also called (TDRL) vs perm (PDRL), you will be evaluated at the 18 mos mark and yearly there after(for a max of 5 years total) for fitness of duty, if your condition improves, you may be offered the chance to return to duty, if your condition stays the same or worsens a permanent rating will be applied and you will be put on PERM retirement or severanced accordingly. the base rating for PTSD unfitting is 50%, BUT other than that the rating is based on the severity of the symptoms. (see VASRD), if at anytime your symptoms rise beyond the 80% mark, or if your other conditions not including PTSD equal 80%, you can request perm. retirement ( its supposed to be automatic but seldom is).
