IU Awarded what happens next ???

I had a TDRL re-exam with the VA and applied for IU and was awarded IU with an effective date May 1, 2013.
Currently, I am receiving both VA and DoD pay 70% VA and 70% Air Force I have 8 years of active service. My current pay is VA at 70% which is $1505.40 and my Air Force disability pay at 70% is $681.00 for a total of $ 2168.40 per month.

Since the VA is back dating me to May of 2013 for IU is DFAS going to recoup the difference in VA pay and disability pay?

Am I eligible to receive both VA and Air Force pay when I have been awarded IU? I looked at DFAS website but I am not sure.

What happens next? I am worried that I might receive a substantial amount of back pay from the VA and DFAS is going to recoup the difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on getting IU.

Before being awarded IU your VA pay was being offset. Now that your VA Pay is higher than your DOD retirement, you will only receive the VA pay. So the answer is no, DFAS will not be recouping the difference.

You are not eligible to receive CDRP since you only have 8 years Active Service. If you had 20 years, you would be eligible.

Lets say 100% is 3168.40 for the VA. Since your receiving 2168.40, your back pay will be 1,000 dollars a month. Does this make sense?

Are you enrolled in SBP? If so, I have the attached the VA Form to have this amount deducted from your VA Pay.

Take care and good luck to you.

You may be off a little bit, since the IU is being backdated, I am fairly certain the difference is "recouped", but that is taken from the back pay its self not future payments.

I am going to go out on a limb and stick to my guns that the DFAS pay will not be recouped (with that said, I could very well be wrong on this). Here is my logic: Once VA goes back and awards the retro pay, the VA will also be tracking that the member is collecting a DOD retirement that is offset.

Now that the VA portion is higher, the member will no longer collect a DOD check. Since the member has paid taxes from May 2013 until now on his DOD portion, the member can apply to the IRS to have the taxes withheld refunded via the "Strickland Decision."

Take care.

I am curious what's going to happen. I will keep you all informed. Thank you for the replies to my post it's greatly appreciated.

It ended up being the difference between va pay and the air force pay that was back payed. For example the difference was around $800 a month dated back to when I filed the claim.
