Hello all,
I came across this site last week when I found out some scary info. I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. I had a MEB request submitted last year or so I thought but, my PCM didn't follow through. So After waiting patiently I followed up and the MEB process began back in July. I finally got the package submitted to the local board and their recommendation was send my package to the IPEB.
Their reasoning was because of my current weight (280). I'm also 6'4" and a big guy but, I don't appear fat. I do know i'm overweight but, I had surgery on my right toe (fused the bones together) which limited my cardio abilities. I make no excuse the overweight portion is on me. My concern i whether or not i'm likely to get medically separated/retired or the code c? My PEBLO said it could go either way but, since i'm Obese per my BMI that concerns me. I've began making the changes to better my health for myself. My commander letter was supportive and clearly stated i'm able to perform my job with no issues. I don't fall asleep at work or anything but, I do still have issues getting a solid nights sleep sometimes.
So if anyone has any insight as to what I should expect that would be great.
PS: I have signed up for the TAPP class in preparation for the worst. If the likelyhood appears to go the medical route then i'd like to know what percentage is common for sleep apnea to get an idea of the likelyhood i'll be retired.
I do want to stay in. I was in the process of being reviewed for an assignment I really wanted and i'm assuming that because my package is on it's way to the IPEB the assignment chances will disappear.
Thanks,
