Input on my rating would be appreciated

I got my informal back Tuesday at 30% on TDRL for diplopia stemming from a schwannoma (brain tumor) removed from my right orbital in october of 07. This is the most I expected from our government honestly and at first was ok with this, however the now that a few days have passed the more I think about it the more this really bothers me. I'm wondering really if I should contest this. I don't care to get rated higher, its just the TDRL vs permanent thing. I'm 23 years old and have had brain surgery. I've already been told good luck getting private health insurance. I'm paranoid that a year and a half from now my rating will be reduced since I've been (being optimistic now) tumor free for that long and they'll end up taking my health coverage. And I know I have the VA, but really at my age I'd rather have more then one option then be at the mercy of them should anything arise in the future. They already screwed me once in not listening to me for over a year that something was seriously wrong with my head, I had to go see my own doctor while on leave to diagnose me. So my question is should I appeal this and request to be put on permanent or just take this and put faith in the TDRL that I'm not going to get screwed again in the end. This is something that my nonmilitary docs have said I really need to keep an eye on and get MRIs at least once a year for the next decade. Thank you for your input

I am not an expert on the legal aspects like Jason, however your concern of the future is more than legit. Also I compliment your maturity at such a young age as most of our younger service members do not think of the future and end up putting themselves in a bind later on in life.

Bump for Jason

I understand your concerns with the insurance. I had surgery in Nov and need to have MRIs twice a year. I just began an MEB and recommended IPEB and need to know what to expect. Please let me know lessons learned or if you find any good resources.

Input on my rating is found at 38 CFR Chapter 4
