important TDRL Question

Hello,

I searched this forum but couldnt find anything related to my question so i will ask....

I was discharged in oct 2006 for PTSD with a 30% rating and placed on the tdrl list. I just had my first review with the doctor and I expressed on how much i missed the army and was more depressed being out than when i was in. Sounds weird I know but I miss being the leader I was and the effect I had on soldiers. So I was wondering from other peoples experience if they knew my chances for being found fit for duty. I should find out within about two weeks but it bugging me to know what the results are going to be

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

It is near impossible to judge the likelihood of an outcome without knowing the medical evidence.

On its face, the statement I "was more depressed now than I was in the Army," would lead me to think your condition is worse and thus a fit finding is unlikely. However, if you are currently working, not suffering from serious symptoms, you may well be able to get a fit finding. It is really hard to say without more information.

All that aside, I do understand your point. From a personal standpoint, my time in Company Command, leading my Soldiers, was one of the most fulfilling jobs. Once I moved to special staff job as a JAG, I sorely missed that time, hard as it was at times. I hope you are better, though, than when you were placed on TDRL.

Please let us know any questions.

Jason,

Thanks for the info. As far as the "depressed more part", thta wasent actually put into the statement from the doctor, what was said is that im not on any medications, and the doctor recommended i return to duty in a non deployable job like recruiter or drill sergeant at first to work me back into the system. Although talking with a lady a walter reed she said if they find me fit for duty then i will be able to re enlist back into the army. Does this help your opinion any on what you think they would do? Do you know if Ill be able to pick any job again or no

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

That sounds more promising. If you are not suffering from substantial limitations, I would be optimistic. Impossible to know how the Board will vote, but the doctor's recommendations should carry a lot of weight in this situations. Best of luck on a fit finding.

Jason,

I'm in the Same boat as Rob I was also put on TDRL for PTSD I have been in treatment for a year and a few months that's includeing treatment on base as well. He is a Civilian Doctor and is on the Tricare list and this is what he worte in his letter.

(To Whom it my Concern:

Mr. Hodges has been Treated for the Diagnosis of PTSD and Started Treatment on 4/24/07. The Course of treatment was medication management along with biweekly counseling.Druing the durtaion of treatment Mr. Hodges made progress in managing his PTSD. Based on his progress, and Strong Desire to Server, it is my Belife Mr. hodges may reture to active duty. Most of mr. Hodges recent anxity expressed was more directed to wanting to return to active duty versus the experiences witnessed while in combat. At this time his symptoms are controlled and mood is stable. through out the course of treatment Mr. Hodges showed no signs or symptoms of impulsive behavoir nor any indication of substance abuse issues. Mr. Hodges thought process is more clear along with problem solving skills being more precise. As mentioned earlier it is my belief that Mr. Hodges may return to Active duty, however I am awear that a more intense Evaluations will the preformed to determine if Mr. Hodges is fit for duty. My Recommendations come from the observation witnessed in treatment and Mr. Hodges Self report of the progress made while in treatment. In speaking with his wife, she is supportive of his reture to active status, witch also indicates external witness to progress in managing is disorder.

If you have question or observation, please call

you know the rest now th question is should I got to FT. Bragg and present the letter to them or sould I go threw the Chain of command? Is this enuff to get me back into the service or is there more needed? Any advice is welcomed thank you.

Sidney,

Welcome, and I am glad to hear that treatment has helped you.

That letter sounds promising. If I were to try to write a "perfect" response, I would look at the DA 199 that put you on the TDRL, and try to address all the concerns mentioned. If the PEB stated that you could not be around rifle fire or explosions, and you now can, I would want that stated. Also, I think it might be helpful to have a description of what current job or school (if any) you have been able to perform in recently and your success in either. In order to be found fit, you want to paint the picture that you can perform the duties expected of someone in your grade and MOS.

The letter is helpful to your case as written, though. What you do with it would depend on where you are in the process. If you are coming up on TDRL re-evaluation, I would either present the letter to the doctor at the MTF for inclusion in his report. If you are a ways off from your re-evaluation, you can try to trigger an earlier evaluation. This would be coordinated through APDA and TDRL section.

I wish you the best in returning to duty!

Jason,

I was looking at my DA-199 from and here is what it say PTSD, Arising from combat experience in two tours of duty in Iraq, Specfifically witnessing a friend killed by RPG Blast, as well as Multiple other mayhem events (10a/c). Transiently Abused Alcohol, but abstinent many months now. Multiple incident of Violents behavior. Treatment has been only moderately effective, futer medication and psychotherapy required. nothing follows.

now looking at my letter from my Doc and looking at this DA-199 it shows me that all the Limitations that were holding me back from being in the military have disapated or been resovled. So that I see when you read this plz tell me what you think. thank you agian for your help this is helping me out a lot. Also my next Evaluation is in may of 09 now can I request to be seen agian or no?

Rob,
I am in a simular situation. I just recieved my notification of the IPEB results and they have put me on TDRL at 50% with my first follow up in 6 months (which I don't understand, since everything I read says 18 months). Anyhow, I was hoping you may be able to help me calm my worries a little. I don't know what comes next. I don't know how much I will be getting paid and I need to know so that I can figure out what to do to pay my bills and live. Will I recieve disability from the VA on top of my Retirement (since it's combat related)? What will happen next?

Please help!!

Jeremy

Help with TDRL

Hello,

Hopefully you all can get to my questions quick. I was put on TDRL in February of 2008 for epilepsy and ptsd. I received a rating of 50% (actually 50, not a lower rating for which is paid 50) and I am due up for my medical examination. Is it likely that I will be put back into service or have my rating drop to zero?

Thanks,

Jim

The outcome will depend on your current degree of disability and the stability of your condition. Without more info, it is impossible to say any likely outcomes.

Im new here also, an Army Vet who only got to serve 2 years because developing Epilepsy over in Japan. The Amy awarded me 10% and a separation pay of $1,200. After an examination with the VA and still having multiple seizures, license suspended for 6 months, they moved me up to 40%. I got out taking 1 medication, now I take 3 twice a day. Ive been out since 2004, and without me even knowing this paperwork and forms come in the mail to fill out for PEB. I filled it out and mailed it off last month...I emailed them, they said there waiting on my medical records, what happens next....All this came out of the Blue.

how on earth are you getting a PEB if you are no longer in the army ?

I think it will be damn near impossible to reenlist as you would have to go through meps again and they medically disqualify pretty much any and all psych medical issues.

I also saw he got 30 percent but isnt the min. for separating for a mental illness 50 percent . someone needs to get fired

idk, got the forms in the mail, out of the blue. Ive been out since 2005 Jeffb.
