I suspect Bipolar 2 for myself, can I ask my MH provider?

I have been seeing BH on and off for years, with not much luck for any long term solutions. I've gone back and forth wondering what exactly I'm dealing with, and I've realized that it's likely bipolar 2.

My new MH provider at my new duty station hasn't suggested it to me as as a possibility, is there anything wrong with outright asking him if I have it?

Also, if anyone here has been through a MEB for the same condition, do you think you could tell me the experience with your symptoms? I'm curious if it's my issue.

No there isn’t anything wrong with asking your provider and describing your symptoms or getting screened, on average it takes 6-10 years to be properly diagnosed bipolar.

For me I initially presented to my mental health clinic with severe depression. Even though my father and grandfather were bipolar 1 they placed me on various SSRI’s anyway which all failed or made me worse until I was placed on a mood stabilizer.

Looking back now I would say there were quite a few signs beforehand though. I always struggled with depression and anxiety but also had occasional times of impulsive behavior, hyperactivity, reckless spending, lack of need for sleep etc. The symptoms just got worse over time until I couldn’t control them anymore without help.
