hello my husband has been in the army for a little more than a year as a mp now a couple weeks ago he had a incident where he was hospitalized for depression and now their trying to med board him out of the army my husband wants to stay in and has never had a history of depression it was just a series of events that went horribly wrong were kinda in the dark and don't know what to do he feels fine and feels as he can preform his job in desperate need of help please howvcan he be found fit for duty myhusband has never been a depressed guy and has no prior history of depression

You have given zero info here. What did he do? You say he is an MP did his actions require his being disarmed pending psychiatric review? Did he hurt himself or someone else? Has to be more to the story then what you are putting out here.

It comes down to his treating physicians and his command believing that to be true... He's a newbie so letters from his drill instructors, IAT instructors, High School teachers/coaches/councilors, family physician, minister might help. But it really comes down to his treating military doctors and his military command believing that to be true... Good Luck

he said he tried to overdose but didn't really was put in the psych hospital for 72hourhold got out feels great then boom were slaped with medboard papers saying hes depressed cant be around weapons but hes a lot better and wants to fight to stay in

They will need to treat him for awhile/depend on the doctors notes to stay in. This is gonna sound bad so please take it as a generalization and not an attack on you or your husband- The army is facing so much in regards to the suicide rate, they would rather take someone who attempted suicide-get them to stable status and put them out in the hopes of removing the stressors leading to their attempt, then the va takes care of them and it becomes a VA stat not an army suicide stat.

IF your husband is really good to go and is being railroaded, I highly recommend seeking second opinions from civilian providers and getting those notes into his mental health record. and fighting all the way through tot he formal board/surgeon general of the army.

To be blatantly honest however, if your husband is an MP and that is one of the few jobs he qualifies for and is known to be "suicidal" in stressful situations then the armed forces may not be for him. If he did not try to OD, he said he did which meant he was using an escape mechanism, if he was manning a gate in the stan and shit got rough would he do the same thing leaving the gate undermanned or forcing someone else to pick up his slack? it sounds bad and I am sorry, I have put a lot of people in the service as a recruiter and the ones that did not qualify for the AF i helped put in their second or third choice, one constant no matter how good my sale was, no matter how hyped up I got them on going in etc. NOT EVERYONE IS CUT OUT FOR OUR LIFESTYLE and its best to find out early vs after 3-4 years etc.

reclass depending on availability is a possibility if they believe he will not be in the arming group required for MP, but it is mu understanding that "arming" is a basic soldiering skill and thus could negatively impact his retention in service.

Lots of soul searching to do...
He won't be able to re-class if mental health wants to put him out. He needs to be honest with the Doctors and explain what brought on the lie. He may learn that yelling wolf has consequences when were are scaling back operations. I hope he can man up with his doctors and find a resolution that is best for all concerned. Good Luck ;)

The Army is trying to cut numbers and are doing so through MEB, so once they get their chance they will do so, it was so quick for your husband because he is around his MOS involves him having to carry around a firearm at all times do to him being a MP and if he BH problems then in their eyes he isn't able to do his duties, it's best if he reclasses because they with BH they can find him unfit for his current MOS

If I was you try and get him sent to a WTU if possible and that should give him enough time to possibly reclass, I'm not sure of he has enough TIS yet to reclass

Thank you for your husband's service! I'm sorry to hear about these developments in your life and husband's career.

Few questions...when did your husband's hospitalization take place? What type of treatment has he been receiving since? Do you know who initiated his med board--was it behavioral health, PCM or command? And do you know what paperwork, specifically, they gave your husband that started his med board?

You are doing a good thing by getting on this site and seeking help for your husband. Keep your head up.

it took place two weeks ago and I belive the doctor was the one who iniated the meb board and it was the permanet profile for depression which my husband has never been a depressed person the leader ship in his command do not care about their soldiers and my husband is not the only one in his platoon that is going threw this we were actually advised to go to ig today

Being referred to the MEB does not necessarily mean that your husband will be found not retainable by the Physical Evaluation Board (PEB). They may keep him in the Army.

As his wife you need to sit him down and have a "come to god" discussion about minding his Ps and Qs. The last thing your familiy needs is him getting any UCMJ actions.

With only one year or so under his belt, he does not have the wisdom nor the skills to go head to head with someone that can end his career in an instant just by provoking him.

This is a current practice for reduction of force. Regardless of what job they are making him do right now, the check will still be in the bank on the first and the fifteenth.
