I'm in MEB, and am having trouble. I don't know how to plan for my family to move when i dont know what my income will be. Fort Lewis received my MEB findings or narsum stuff Nov. 23, 2011. I called my PEBLO and she said I'll call you when i know something,...I called some VA number and put in an inquiry? i got an e-mail that said they were backed up and sorry. I know im not the only person frustrated, but im pretty scared that i have no set plans for moving my family. Im not used to not knowing whats goin on... Im by far not the same as i was before i joined and deployed....I think that the stresses durring this all, is sometimes more than rolling missions when i was deployed. ill post more specific question about my stuff later. i have appointment to goto. anyone with info for planning moves befor you know how much you can afford plz chime in.....

I'm up here at Ft. Lewis Lewis right this very minute - out-processing for my PDRL retirement. I'm a NG with a 20 "good" year letter, too.
I'm going to attend the JPPSO briefing tomorrow morning - they're the folks that coordinate your final military move.
I DO NOT have a 20 Active Duty letter - mine is from the National Guard.
But I found out it is NOT required to have a 20 year letter from anyone!
If you are placed on PDRL or TDRL - no matter if you are AD Army, NG or Army Reserve -
IF THE BIG ARMY RETIRES YOU - THE BIG ARMY MOVES YOU.
YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO USE THE RETIREMENT HOME STATION OF CHOICE, MOVEMENT OF HOUSEHOLD GOODS, AND VEHICLE TRANSPORTATION.
If you are placed on TDRL or PDRL orders, your retirement orders for PDRL or TDRL will have a paragraph in it that tells you that you are authorized for this final RETIREMENT move.
You will need an Army disability finding (rating) of 30% or greater AND be placed on TDRL or PDRL orders to qualify for this cost-subsidized movement to your retirement Home Station of Choice.
Next week, I will have much to report about my Ft. Lewis out-processing adventure. My experience WILL be posted on this website so other NG/Reservists can prepare for this goat-rope.
What my unit told me (CB-WTU-CA) was to expect to be up at Ft. Lewis for this out-processing for 3-5 days. HOWEVER, by the time this is done for me, I will have completed 16 days up here!
How CB-WTU-CA expects their wounded Soldiers, who are spread out throughout the Western United States, and often-times located hundreds and hundreds of miles away - to accomplish this out-processing in less than a week is unacceptable!
It only stands to screw the Soldier out of money and benefits - at a time the Wounded Warrior needs them the most and may be too bad off to catch mistakes or even know what they are eligible for! Talk about throwing people under the bus!
I will be home next week and report my findings at that time. That posting will be long, but be informative and help prepare Soldiers coming from CB-WTU-CA to Ft. Lewis for their out-processing. There are things the Soldier needs to do in advance so personnel records are correct, military payroll time is correct, Ft. Lewis billeting is correct, travel orders are done IN ADVANCE so the Soldier gets reimbursed, and so on.

Today I was told that you have ONE YEAR from the date of your discharge to PDRL or TDRL to move. But you need to make sure you are dialed into the JPPSO system and have done the computer course/briefing/turned in your orders and request.
Additionally, there are extensions available if the retiree qualifies for the exemption/extension of an additional year. And this can be extended for several years - up to five years I believe the JPPSO guy said in the briefing.
But they do frown on lengthy extensions, and extensions are specific to the SMs situation - IF the situation qualifies for an extension.
There are two seperate briefings for this Army move, too. One briefing is for if you decide to use a packer to pack your stuff up and ship you stuff to your new place.
The other briefing is for if you decide to do a "DITY" move (Do IT Yourself). I will be attending both briefings so I know what my choices are and can make the decision that fits best for me and my situation.

Thanks, I will be going to both as well because I am planning on doing a "partial DITY." After the last move, I will never trust people with fragile stuff ever again.
This is discouraging im in an active line company that is training, i take no part in any of there actions or training i asked this morning about a memo for housing so i would be exempt from 30 day notice rule also about permissive leave and was told it was at commanders descretion this is the second new commander since my deployment focus is on training obviously,...it feels like with all the new people and command theres no time or care for MEB soldiers like were the last thing on their minds i was denied entry to WTB unit almost a year ago cause i was so far into the MEB process HA!!!! i wastold matrix score thing had to be over 500 to be considered i had 2300+ but others after me with scores under 700 were taken in difference they were NCOs and said they planned on staying in i didnt.....yes this is a rant im pissed it seems that the sytem is an utter failure to some and caters to others
Ok so,...spoke with PEBLO today. my ETS is less than 50 days from now(on 6mnth extension) my command wanted to know if i would need to extend again. She told me that there are over 150 cases pending ratings, and that mine went in for ratings Dec 2nd, but there over 30 days behind working on cases that went in Nov...So I need to see if they will let me extend again. She doesn't expect to hear anything for over two months....So does this mean that when my case does come up, it takes a month to rate and return to MTF? Also PEB received my case Nov 23rd, so what does it mean "went up" on Dec 2nd?
The IDES process timeline varies from Location to Location, PEBLO to PEBLO, Fort to Fort, and from VA Region to VA Region.
In the Pacific Northwest, with Ft. Lewis and the Seattle VA, in MY case, it took about 3 1/2 months for the PEB and the VA to return a rating to my PEBLO.
Once you sign your DA 199 and all that (IF you don't appeal and ask yur PEBLO for a Formal Board), your PEBLO sends off your signed packet to another Army agency back EAST for a final review. THEY do the Final OK things in your DA 199, and set your TRANSPROC discharge date.
That above process with the agency from the East took only two weeks time. They gave me an "on or before 90 days" from THEIR signature date to discharge.
So that agency back East does the final OK on your packet, and sets your discharge date no later than 90 days from the time THEY sign off on your packet.
So by the time the PEBLO gets your packet back and notifies you, you will have way less than 90 days from discharge at that point.
At least, that's how it worked for me.

I totally understand your frustrations....my wife and I are in the same boat. We are trying to plan our lives, but it is nearly impossible. I feel like my life is on hold while we wait for folks to do their job. I busted my tail in the Army for 11 years and this is the thanks we get. I didn't ask for my knee to be completely unusable, at the least the DoD/VA could realize there are people whose lives are still important even though we can't continue to serve our country. Good luck with your process....hope things work out for you.
