I am Guard soldier with 25 years of service, with 9 1/2 years of active duty. Need some advice on what is coming with my ratings that I got. I got a 90% VA and a DOD rating of 50%. So I have contacted the JAG and he is clueless with Guard issues pertaining to PEB. So can anybody give me some advice on what I am looking at financially coming to me. Because no one has told me. My PEBLO has not got back to me and JAG at Ft. Belvoir, VA is lost. Can I take VA% with DOD % rating or one or the other or what?? Thanks!!:)

Daniel,

U have to take one or the other. If you take DOD you get Tricare and less money, if you go VA you go to VA hospital for future medical needs and you would get a severance from DOD that is your Base PayX2 X the amount of active years you have in. What were you found unfit for and what did the VA rate you for. Information would gladly help me. Good luck to you. Active Bud!

With 50% from DOD that would mean that you are being retired whether or not it is permanent or temporary is the question. As far as I am aware and someone can jump in if I am wrong but you continue to recieve Tricare as a retiree and that you get your VA payment with the DOD covering 50 of the 90% from the VA. You don't get to choose one or the other that I am aware of and you are not eligible for severance. Severance is only given at 20% and below. Hope this helps clear things up.
