Question is what can I expect from the PEB based on my medical condition? I am a E-7 USAR with 8 yrs active duty & 8 yrs inactive for 16 yrs total as of this 23 FEB 10. I am currently in a WTU at Ft Bliss, Tx. going through the MEB/PEB process. Below is a very brief/factual description of my situation.
Here is what happened: I was in (combat training) for Iraq when I incurred my injury on 03 Aug 09. I went out for a 3 mile run came back & my left arm was totally ice-cold with blue finger tips. I was rushed to the ER-Room they discovered I had no pulse in my left arm, immediately a vascular surgeon was on scene ordered a angiogram & discovered I had a aneurysm in my left subclavian artery (L-shoulder under first rib) & my left arm had a total thromboses blockage. I was rushed immediately into surgery to repair the left arm if it was possible, with a warning that I could lose my left arm if couldn't be saved. The doctor was able to repair one of the arteries in the arm to give the arm partial blood flow to save it. The I had to have another surgery to remove my first rib to be able to insert a stint into the Left subclavian artery which was done the following day, so I had these three surgeries in one week. Now I have very limited strength in my left arm & hand, & I am missing my first rib with a stint in my exposed artery where the rib was at. My vascular surgeon thinks that this aneurysm was caused by something mechanical most likely my IBA (body armor) he thinks, because all my lab work came back normal for my vascular health & no family history or any prior health issues. The mechanical causation & body armor theroy was also stated on my LOD & is part of the record. I do now have a permanent P3 profile & it only allows me to walk at my own pace & I can wear a NBC mask, nothing more.
The MEB Proceedings DA Form 3947 has listed that I Do Not Meet Retention Standards for:
1. Arterial Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, S/P First Rib Resection & Subclavian Artery Aneurysm Exclusion.
2. Brachial Artery Thromboembolisim with Subsequent Ischemia & repair of the Brachial artery.
IAW Ar 40-501, Chp 3-22(a-2), 3-24(b&c)
Is there anyone with enough experience with the board that could give me an educated guesstimate of what I might expect from the PEB possibly?
I thank you in advance for any answers or advice that you can give.
