So on the 1 Oct. I got my first retirement pay check. I also got a pay check for the DOD ?? i thought i was only going to get one or the other?? so I'm a little confused .. so I've been poking around and was reading about Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay. I have a 90% rating from the VA. I was wondering if this could be why i got both checks?? And if i should be getting both checks??????

Need more info.....

Are you TDRL or PDRL?

What was your DoD rating percentage?

Do you have 20 or more AD years or 7200 NG/Reserve points?

Were your DoD injuries Combat/Combat related?

Do you have spouse and/or dependents?

Dear niland:

If you do not have combat/combat related designations for your PDRL retirement, then you should be receiving your VA compensation and the DoD should have been reduced dollar-for-dollar by the 90% value amount of your VA monthly amount.

If your monthly PRDL is higher than your monthly VA amount, you will get all your VA, but get whatever is left over on your PDRL after they subtract your VA amount from it.

Have you contacted DFAS to find out what's going on? I sure would - and first thing in the morning before they get another million calls and you're on hold forever.

I rec'd a letter from DFAS that told me the VA money was coming, they knew about it, and that they (DFAS) were making adjustments to my PDRL because the VA money was set to kick in. I didn't ever get two full checks from both agencies in a month.

So I'd give DFAS a call and find out what's going on. I just hope this may be CRSC if you have combat related findings. But do call them and let them know ASAP so you don't have a big pay-back headache.

I'm going to call in the morning . I just saw the payment hit my account. It was after hours for DFAS . Just thought someone here might shed so light on it for me..

And you know how the government works...if they underpay you, they take their time making it right (and not always paying the full amount at once)....if they overpay you, they will take it all back at once and quickly.

Good luck correcting this! I've been in the same boat for 3 month now. I'm getting both checks when I should only be getting one. I call DFAS and they say it's something the VA needs to handle. Call the VA and they say it's DFAS' responsibility. Let me know if get anywhere...

Joshgo DFAS told me that "if" it should be stopped VA needs to send a letter stating your claim is being payed by the VA and then and only then will I stop receiving the DFAS payment. So I call the VA they told me that I might be entitled the payment and I had to take that up with the Air Force to see if I'm getting a combat related injury . So I'm in the same boat with you. No one knows the the answer and are sending me in a circle .. So I'm just saving that payment so I can give it back when they want it..

Yep, it seems no one really knows what to do. I know there are plenty of people in the same situation so I don't understand what's so hard about it or why this happens to certain people... Meanwhile I have about 30 big ones just sitting there because I know I can't touch it. Oh well, I guess they'll figure it out eventually. It did work to my advantage when I recently applied for a home loan :)
