Is there any reason you waited for almost three months to get your NARSUM back? I was told about a month. It looks like the rest of what I heard is true though, after you get your NARSUM everything speeds up. Thanks for the post dashfan9, look forward from hearing a reply.

Actually I made a mistake in my original post - it has been corrected. I said April instead of May on the NARSUM. The NARSUM was supposed to be quick, and initially it was. However, my referring physician didn't put the paragraph numbers that applied to my various conditions. So, it was sent back to be fixed. By that time, my physician had PCS'ed so it went back to the hospital to be fixed and signed by the MEB physician there. I turned in my commander's statement at my initial PEBLO meeting - I knew it had to be done so I asked him to do it before I even went. I guess that's one of the advantages of being in a "Company" that is smaller than a tank platoon.

My timeline was longer than yours because when 10th Mountain deployed, the CG had all of their personnel in the MEB front-loaded and everyone else was put on the back burner. I understand why that was done, but still ticked me off at the time.

Supposedly, getting the VA ratings back is going to take a long time - new PEBLO said between 6-8 weeks, VA MSC said they have been averaging 4 weeks. We'll see - hopefully it's sooner. Good luck with your timeline.

The packet is worded as follows, my comments are in parentheses.
Army:
40% PDRL for Intevertebral disc syndrome, throacolumbar spine with degenerative disc disease and scoliosis (my ROM was really bad, less than 30 degrees forward flexion).

VA:
40% for Intevertebral disc syndrome, throacolumbar spine with degenerative disc disease and scoliosis.
10% Cervical strain with muscle spasm, C3-4, C4-5 disc space narrowing
10% Tinnitus (damn tank rounds and bombs and stuff)
10% Sensory deficit left lower extremity (numb/tingly leg)
10% Sleep disorder due to back injury and pain
0% right little finger deformity (dislocated playing football for PT in Iraq, never healed right)
0% Tarsal degenerative arthritis with flexion deformity (I get a pain in my right toe when I walk sometimes)
0% scar lower back, residual of lumbar spine surgery
0% periodic limb movement syndrome (caused, I think, by the drugs they gave me to help with nerves while getting off the pain killers I'd been on)

VA Math = 60%

Days in the Process:
Reaching optimal medical benefit to signing DA 199: 275 days
First initial counseling w/PEBLO to signing DA 199: 210 days
Packet sent from MEB to PEB to signing DA 199: 50 days
PEB UNFIT to signing DA 199: 37 days

All in all, I'm happy with my rating. I believe the rating for my back was fair and done correctly. The other stuff, I'm not as concerned about, especially since it is covered for treatment later on.

I wish everyone the best of luck, especially those who have been stuck in this system for a long, long time, as well as those who have major medical issues that aren't being addressed or rated correctly.

*Not able to use all of my saved leave days for terminal leave since my latest extension takes me out to October 25th. Transitions branch cannot move my ETS date just to adjust for amount of leave days saved, so I will end up selling a bunch of leave. Not worried about it though, since I'm getting out of Fort Polk.

That's amazing that you're getting out of here! My process has been going to slow that I've just decided to forget about and signed up for some college classes to keep my mind off of it, anxiety is a big one for me. The good news is though, my MEB doctor had my commander rewrite the commanders statement saying that she won't want to retain me, which was confusing to everyone in the first place. My NARUSM is done and my PEBLO said it's going around for signatures, so I hope to see it soon. I really feel your pain about 4/10 being front loaded, I left 4/10 right as they deployed just so I could be put into a MEB in another unit. I've also passed my ETS date and have been extending every two months, I had no idea that's all they'll do for my leave days. I might want to use some now since I've got almost 60 days. Congrats on the retirement, I hope I get one too. Have you heard anything about transferring your G.I. Bill if you're retired? The Army G1 said without six years I cannot transfer it no matter what. I've heard otherwise from VA personnel on base. Although if this process takes another 10 months I'll be at 6 years. You've only got a week and a half left, that's amazing man! You must thrilled to be getting out of here. I know we will!

Definitely use some of your leave days if you have 60+....if you are medically retired, you are authorized 20 days of PTDY. So, in my case, I had 63 days of leave saved. I'm taking 20 days of PTDY and 19 days of leave, selling back 44 days of leave.

I haven't asked or looked into transferring my GI Bill at all since I plan on using it. My recommendation - and I will try to remember to look it up myself tomorrow - is to dig trough the regs regarding the GI Bill or call the VA at 800-827-1000 and talk to them. Ask about both situations - medical discharge AND medical retirement - there could be a big difference between the two.

You are really lucky I'm at Bragg and my p3 got signed April 17 and I just had my Phase 2 physical last Thursday. I have yet to hear about any of my VA appts. I guess at Bragg were on the 18 month plan. That is great though that you got through that fast. Congrats and enjoy life.
 
im at bragg also. My ratings were done at the VA on 23 August. As of today, nobody can get a hold of the PEB and I still have no idea what my ratings are because no one will tell me. Contacted the VA, they said no, contacted the VA rep who works in the same office as the PEBLO, she said no. My PEBLO said "sorry man." I am about to light a fire under them with a congressional inquiry. So fed up. I have been extended 5 times. It is now a running joke with the woman who process the medical extensions because she knows me by name. Not funny to me
 
Have you contacted the number on your Unfit letter? There is a SFC Castro listed as the contact on my letter. When did your board go up to the PEB? Mine went on 25 July.

Keep your cool Jake, at least you're still getting paid with every extension you get. I've been extended numerous times as well, so far that I even got another clothing allowance, you can't beat that. Would you rather be waiting for the VA while on active duty while you're still getting paid? Or, would you rather be a Veteran not getting paid waiting for the VA? The choice is clear. I know this stuff is time consuming, but just try to go with the flow. You have to keep a positive outlook on life, and being in the Army is no exception. You should be the one laughing at them because you're still getting paid while they've got their heads up their asses. A congressional might make you feel better, but think about the unit climate, how will it make the unit feel. The unit is watching all us P-3's like hawks, we're a loss to the Army, but we're still getting paid, they want to get us out. You know what I did on my third ETS extension? I signed up for four college classes, my commander tried to threaten me that if I get out before class ends I'll have to pay, and I told her I gladly will if I have to, since I'm a TX residence and the school is in TX the cost is cheap. Keep your head up Jake. I had a buddy named Jake who couldn't take the PTSD pressure and drank his way out about six months ago, you think he's made his way to the VA yet? Not even close, and in six more months, he can't make a service connected claim. Don't go there, as long as you're getting paid, you've got the life. Best advice, keep yourself busy and forget that you're even in a PEB, and when those ratings come out you can celebrate like you won the lottery.
