Filing claims for information seen in doctors notes.

Hi all, new to the forum so any apologies if this isn’t how it works.

Long story short, I’m rated for a mental Heath condition and in 2017 I submitted a claim for IBS secondary to my disability. I was awarded service connected for chronic diarrhea but 0% because they couldn’t determine an etiology. Fast forward to recently, I had an apt with my PCP. He prescribed meds for IBS. While looking through My Healthy Vet past notes, in the “problem” section, my PCP has also listed agoraphobia and depression and IBS.

My question is, with IBS being treated by the VA now, should I reopen that claim for an crease? And should I submit claims for agoraphobia and depression on top of what I’m currently rated with?

At my apt with my PCP, they suggested an insomnia diagnosis as well. I’m not sure how I gain medical evidence for that other than relying on the C&P exam.

Thanks

You see a physician seeking diagnosis and treatment of the suggested conditions would be step one. C&P information is the minimums, the more ammo you can add to it, the easier it will be to claim the conditions. With the diagnosis you will need to have a nexus linking these conditions to your service.

Thanks for your reply! I suppose my question is, will the notes from my PCP saying current “problems” are agoraphobia, depression, IBS, etc. count as being a diagnosis? Or will I need to schedule appointments to confirm those notes?
Thanks again!

You cannot pyramid claims you are already rated for MH they will not rate additional ones if you feel you qualify for an increase you can apply for that, you are also rated for IBS that needs to be documented read the rating schedule to make sure you meet the next higher ratings which is either 10, or 30 percent if it isn't severe they will typically throw you a 0%. I strongly recommend you work with a VSO who know how to help build these increases for you DAV, AMVETS, American Legion, VFW, County VSO etc.

That’s perfect, thanks so much for your input. I’ll definitely get with the County VSO for any further claims or increases.
