Well today has been kind of a strange whirlwind... After the update this morning, eBenefits updated to Pending Decision Approval on the original claim a little later, and just now a historical claim showed up as Complete with Decision Notification Sent.

I am at waiting on my PEBLO to contact me with my NARSUM form the VA C&P Exams. I ended mine last week, then the package should go off to the I-PEB. Yours has gone fast since you had you exams. So nerve wrecked thank god for colonopin.

Yeah, I was really surprised about how quickly things went following the C&P exams, but the Air Force has been my hold up through the entire process. As of Friday, my case was still at the case worker that received it from the VA, with no action taken for going on 2 weeks. The VA has been great (a week for the C&P reports, a week for ratings). And the IPEB itself has been good too (a week for unfit). It's the administrative crap inbetween that seems to be the real annoyance for me.

Fazwich,

you mentioned it took a week to find you unfit and then how long for your ratings? Have your received them yet from your PEBLO? My stuff was submitted to the IPEB on 30 Sept. I am trying to find out when and how I can determine the unfit status since I don't have a second claim opened yet on E-Benefits. Thank You

I found out I was unfit from the OAC over the phone, but if your PEBLO is responsive, they can also see this status update. The VA completed my ratings in one week, but I still have not been presented them officially. I received my proposed ratings from the VA, they will fax them 10 business days after the second claim closes. My PEBLO told me they don't have access to proposed ratings, but that is inconsistent with what others have said, so take it with a grain of salt.

As an odd aside, I actually received an email from myPers when my package passed AFPC review and was forwarded to the board, and I have not seen any other person mention that. It was one week after that email that my unfit memo was forwarded to the VA.

Who is the OAC?

So how did that work? I am kind of lost. I sign my addendum next week to be sent off to the I-PEB. Whats after that?

OAC = office of airmen council, the PEB lawyers

So I see others say they were notified by the OAC that they were unfit. I talked to them for advice and they told me they do not get involved, nor is my PEBLO able to review or find out if I am unfit until the whole package comes back from DRAS and the PEB. Advice?

only if I need the right?
Pretty sure. My packet of stuff was just sent to the IPEB Friday. I think I'm going to call the OAC Monday and see what they think about my case.
That was mainly in response to MHites asking what OAC was.

From what I can gather and what my PEBLO told me, the IPEB will now decide if you are medically fit or unfit. Then they send your packet to the VA fit ratings. She told me the average time she has seen recently for fit/unfit is 3 weeks.
After the VA gives their proposed rating it is sent back to the DoD for them to rate your unfitting conditions. At some point it also goes to AFPC for them to approve the ratings. My PEBLO said that whole process is taking on average 3 months. The shortest she has seen recently is a month.

Clsoar, I wish that were the case. My PEBLO has told me 3-6 months from the time it goes to AFPC, mine went at the end of Sept. Additionally after talking with someone from the VA, they said something similar. Hope its closer to what they are telling you

And of course all we can do is wait and see. When I asked my PEBLO why there were such drastic differences in how fast the process went, she said she could not figure out a specific reason. As far as she could tell there were no trends that made one case take longer than another. She's been a PEBLO since 2003, so that's a lot of experience with this hurry up and wait game with no actual insight into a method to the madness.

MHites, from what I have seen, the level of help from the VA and the OAC depend entirely on who picks up the phone. I have had one person at the OAC tell me they can't see anything, one willing to give me every status date since the package arrived at AFPC, and yet another tell me they wish they could help but their system doesn't show them details. It seems like a serious case of left hand not communicating with the right hand, leaving us kind of out in the cold.

clsoar, my PEBLO has said similar regarding the lack of pattern in the timelines. There are so many moving pieces in this process that I don't know how there could be a pattern. The decision points in my case have been fairly quick, but due to what my PEBLO has called a "newish" case worker handling my file at AFPC, there has been a 5-12 day administrative delay every time it needs to change hands.

Currently it has been sitting with my case worker, finished, since 13 October. We are literally just waiting to receive results that have been ready for almost a week. At which point, thanks to the VA faxing my rating proposal, I already know I will be initiating a VARR. Fingers crossed that process goes smoothly. If I get my initial ratings in the next week, it will have been almost exactly 2 months since my package was forwarded to the IPEB. Seems pretty quick compared to many on this forum.

Well, I received my ratings from my PEBLO, and the Air Force has thrown me somewhat of a curve ball. They found the sleep disorder which I was going to request the VARR on not to be unfitting, but found the PTSD, which had not been originally sent to the board to be unfitting. Overall my ratings were 70% DoD/90% VA. Since I can't request a reconsideration on the sleep disorder but the DoD is so high thanks to the PTSD, I have accepted the rating and am now awaiting orders. I will take up the rating for the sleep disorder with the VA once I am retired.

Is hypomania and General Anxiety Unfitting as well at moderate with social and work impairment?

I couldn't say one way or the other how the board will decide a specific case. It would be more reliant on what the narsum and the VA examiner had to say in your package.
