DOES ARMY PAY DLA FOR MEB?

I just found out that the Army will not pay to have my car moved from Fort drum NY to Tucson Az. I will have to drive. So I have decided to just move myself with a u-haul and trailor for the car. My question is, if anyone knows is, will the Army pay just like they do in a PCS move or is it going to be all on me financially?

Plenty of places to run an MEB and PEB on the east coast. Why are you being sent to Arizona??

No, no, I am relocating to Az. after the MEB is complete.

Yes, they will pay if you are retired. If not retired, I don't think you qualify for DITY...

Oh, Ok< I am being MEB retired so we should be good?
Make sure! Call transportation because I am being medically retired, as well as was told that with ETS or Retirement, they will only pay to have your household goods shipped at government expense. Basically, from my understanding, you wouldn't qualify for any type of DLA or reimbursement for DITY. Definitely not any shipping of vehicles, unless you are overseas. But, don't quote me on this info although I just had my household goods shipped at gov't expense. Contact Transporation. Let us know what they say.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Transportation. I was told that they will pay for DITY move, all expenses paid. Only if you are retiring or going through MEB.

I just medically retired from ft bliss, they will cover all expenses with a dity move. They do not pay DLA, however. Also, when you go to transportation the ladies working at the desk will tell you, you cannot get advance pay for moving. But this is not the case, after sitting through the briefing a transportation counselor told us that we could request advance pay. I received mine within 15 days of my terminal leave start date.

Wow-I was so misinformed, but it's good to know about the DITY info and the DLA-thanks.

Make sure when you either get your TDRL or PDRL that your retirement orders state Retirement Home Station of Choice - your RETIREMENT move.

The JFTR Joint Federal Travel Regulations authorizes this move for ALL SERVICEMEMBERS - AS LONG AS you are retiring to TDRL OR PDRL.

TDRL and PDRL BOTH COUNT.

RESERVE AND NATIONAL GUARD GET THIS, TOO.

A RETIREMENT IS A RETIREMENT IS A RETIREMENT - PERIOD. YOU GET THE MOVING OPTION.

AND IT ALSO COUNTS FOR RESERVE/NG SERVICEMEMBERS WHO ARE IN THE IDES AND ARE GOING TO RECEIVE TDRL OR PDRL, TOO.

THE JFTR REGULATION COVERS THIS. READ UP ON IT AND BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR THIS BEFORE YOU DISCHARGE - especially if you are quite a ways away from the nearest transportation office.

I made sure this moving option was on my retirement orders and signed up for this option when I was going through transitions (NG PDRL retiree). I am now going to ask for a one year extension as I cannot move just yet as I am on "stabilization" via VA Doctor's orders. I have a VA letter on VA letterhead from the VA Doctor so stating this and I was told by transportation that there should be no problem with my receiving a one year extension.

I just got my proposed rating and have a final out date of 26 Oct 2013...I am on the TDRL , does that mean that trasportation will still move my household goods to wherever i am going(GA) instead of my Home of record address in california if I would like then too?

The Army will only pay travel distance, and whoever is going, but no Per Diem. It's not like you would get paid for a regular PCS move. Go to transportation, or travel, and ask what they will cover so you will know how to plan.

I was given travel days based on mileage. That includes Per Diem for travel days and mileage. No DLA. You can also store your belongs through them for free for up to a year. And they will ship it to you for free. Say if you didn't want to pack, carry, transport, and unpack yourself. Or if you need time to find a home.

yes, anywhere you want to go.

BIGGIE. Do not say you were med boarded when asking for your benefits and entitlements through MPF and TMO.

Always use the term RETIRED.

People hear medical and assume separation and frequently give incorrect info. I had to fight for my terminal, house hunting, travel, free storage, ect. because people kept looking up medical seperation. You get full RETIREMENT benefits. Use that word always when asking questions.

I just left Ft drum NY, in April I had allot of leave stored up, but anyway my point is my Home of record was Memphis TN. And I wanted to go to Tucson Az. and the Army let me, and Paid for all of it.

Maybe that's where your per diem went J/K :)

Well someone at TMO liked you. Or maybe helped you out and just put that as your HOR.
But it's probably because you did a DITY, and I had my belongings shipped by a contractor, which is why they would have charged me. Mileage was just for me and my car.

I was given 5 travel days and an advance for mileage and per diem. You get per diem because you are still in the military and are supposed to drive a certain amount of miles per day. To cover your hotel expenses also.

Are you sure they gave you 1000 extra mileage in pay?

If you have two vehicles the Army does pay per diem for dependents. I was paid on mine, and my wife and daughter were paid on a separate voucher. I also did my final move from Fort Drum, and went to CA.

Oh I forgot. If you get a letter from you PCM doctor stating you cannot endure a long drive due to your conditions, they will cover shipment and your airfare. So it depends on what you were MEB retired for. e.g. backpain. I was given that option.
