If you can be PT tested while on convalescent leave? I am recovering from back surgery and supervision is insisting on me doing a pt test. I am exempt I think from everything but the waist... And um I've sorta put on some pounds while recovering.

Thanks friends!

While you are on convalesent leave they can not make you come into work that's time for you to recover. I would check your profile to see what your PCM states as to what you can and can't do. Saying that you will still have to do your waist. If your worried about that I would start trying to do something to lose some pounds so you don't fail.

First, if you do not have a profile (I did not get one until after I returned from con-leave), call your PCM and let him know what your unit is asking of you. Your profile should indicate what you can or cannot do. For me, I was exempt from all forms of exercise; therefore I was exempt from the PT test all together. See last sentence in par. 4.2.6 At first they wanted me to do the 3 mile walk (while still using a walker to get around) so I had the doc just state no aerobic activity on the profile. You will have 42 days after your last profile for longer than 30 to test. See below.

AFI 10-248
3.6. Exemptions. Members are mandated to complete a composite fitness assessment annually. Optimally, members should complete the entire composite test, but at a minimum, the aerobic and AC measurement requirements must be met every 12-months. Exemptions are designed to categorize members as unable or unavailable to train or test for reasons beyond the control of the member or commander for a limited time period as outlined in Table 3.1.

4.2.6. Providers will annotate member’s duty limiting restrictions to include the expiration date on the AF Form 422, Physical Profile Serial Report. Providers should review AFI 48-123 (Medical Examinations and Standards), para 4.5.5 (Physical Training and Fitness Testing) and para 4.8.6 (Physical Restrictions/Fitness Exemptions). Members will not be required to fitness test for at least 42 days after exemption expires if exempt from all forms of exercise > 30 days

Did you not just get your retirement findings?? Yikes, PT while on con-leave from spine surgery, thats pretty hard cor! This should be a non-issue... The info in my last post should help you...
