Diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder and Adjustment Disorder with Depression

I had my BH NARSUM and the doctor called me the next day to tell me his diagnosis. He said adjustment disorder with depression, and anxiety NOS.

I know that the adjustment disorder will not be rated, but the doctor told me that he was adding the anxiety NOS as a "boardable" condition. Am I correct to interpret this as meaning that the DoD will likely rate this condition? I am concerned that they will say that my work is being effected by the adjustment disorder, and the anxiety NOS is not causing any problems, and rate me at 0%.

Has anyone ever been rated by DoD for Anxiety NOS?

Expect 50% tdrl from dod...

Do they usually switch you to pdrl after a while or will that be another uphill battle? I will definitely be continuing treatment at the VA after I get out.

Yes once you are deemed stable you will either get pdrl or severence depending on re-eval from dod

I saw the new post for the VASRD that Jason put out. I did not see PTSD I only saw "Chronic Adjustment Disorder" yet it is rated like PTSD. I also notice a change in the back / Spine rating were if you have thoracolumbar spine condition at 30 degrees you can possibly get 40%.

It was a guidance put out recently that all mental health conditions will be given min. 50% TDRL from DoD and 50% from VA.

Do you know where this is written? Thanks. :)

I think I should correct myself on this, some have recently been given 30% for anxiety disorder due to the severity of the case. I should have stated that those with PTSD, bi-polar, schizoprenia, and/or multiple conditions were to be rated at 50% TDRL if unstable, if stable 50% PDRL. This is what the VA reps told me, I have heard it repeatedly.

In my case I was rated as Major Depressive Disorder and Anxiety Disorder with Insomnia included as a stable condition rated as 50%PDRL. If they stated I was unstable I would have gotten 50% TDRL until proven stable, then rerated.

I received 50% for MDD/anxiety. It starts at 30% but alot of people will get 50%. al depends on severity.

How about Severe anxiety disorder coupled with ADHD? Im guessing it is 50% total for both?

is "adjustment disorder w/ anxiety and depression" not rated by the VA either?

It will be rated by VA as something else with their diagnosis, most likely depression. The DoD doesn't like to admit soldiers have mental conditions.

I was placed on TDRL 50% PTSD, at my FMEB they decreased 30% PDRL. I was rated at 50% by the VA at the time of the hearing and I told them I had requested an increase. Appealed to AFSEC and they upheld the 30% PDRL. Decision for increase from the VA was PTSD 100%. Go figure!

Sounds about right tynabell. Atleast you have the 100% from the VA!

I received a permanent 50% rating for Anxiety NOS. You're absolutely right grizz, the military does not like to admit mental conditions. I have been treated for PTSD for the past 5 years and all of a sudden when I get MEBd they flipped the script on me and said it's not PTSD but anxiety. It's crazy because I met all the criteria for PTSD. I was tasked back in the mid 90's to remove victims of an airline crash where 100's lost their lives. I soon developed symptoms of panic attacks, anxiety, and depression. It wasn't until I was med boarded 5 years ago for diabetes (returned to duty) that I sought help. And I've been treated for it ever since. But now I got my proposed ratings and the military says anxiety and VA says Anxiety NOS (also diagnosed as PTSD). So I don't know if VA is recognizing it as anxiety or PTSD. The diagnostic code they gave was 9413 which is only anxiety but why would they say in parenthesis (also diagnosed as PTSD)?

IMO in the terms of medical care, I'd say that they think that you have PTSD that is underlying and can present itself at any time. In order for you to get the correct treatments at the VA they would put this if it presents itself, and you can get your claim reviewed and have PTSD added at a later time.

Grizz-I finally, got my NARSUM-and am awaiting to take it to MEB council for review. I will send you a PM.

Thanks Grizz! Yea, I think you're right. Now that I think about it, one of the psychiatrists told me that I had it in the past but that my anxiety is the real issue now. Makes sense, thanks for bringing that to light.

That is why we all use this site!;)

congrats on the 50% jacob. were the initial 30% and then bumped up to 50 after a rating reconsideration? My intial came back at 10 for MDD and am hoping to get it up to at least 30%. What did you use for extra evidence in your rating reconsideration?
