Alright - now that I've gotten past the "Review in lieu of" (RILO) MEB and been formally referred to IDES I figure I'll start a timeline from this point.

#1 16NOV12 - Filled out VBA-21-0819 and turned into PEBLO. Awaiting date for IDES inbrief from my PEBLO.

Thanks for the welcome :) One of the ways I deal with my mental issues is by being as informed about the process as possible and the site has already been a HUGE help in that regard. Helps me feel a bit more in control of the situation even though I know I'm not :p

#2 28NOV12 - Inbrief with PEBLO - seems like a nice helpful guy but I have learned more on this forum than what he told me. He asked me to sign off on NARSUM that only mentions my mental issues in passing. Brought paperwork home and looked it over. Going to request an IMR tomorrow and use that + the rebuttal to try and get it added as a "Potentially Unfitting Diagnosis". Went to the Area Defense Counsel to get some advice but they referred me to the PEB lawyers who I don't think can/will help me yet.

Also got a MFR finished up today with my OIC detailing how my issues are impacting my work. Not sure if I can get it in the PEB file but I'm sure going to try.

#3 29NOV12 - So today it came out that the PEBLO mis-informed me. The "MEB" that he said was complete is not. My Review in Lieu Of (RILO) "MEB" is finished. I will now be sent to the states TDY to a VA hospital. Once I do that THEN my formal NARSUM will be written and I'll have a chance to take advantage of the IMR. He is new to the whole process so it doesn't really bother me but I'm sure glad I pretty much have the AFI's/DOD regs memorized. Supposed to have my telephone interview with my VA MSC in a couple weeks. Now the waiting game begins...

#4 30NOV12 - Today I got my complete medical records I requested a month ago. After reading it I'm really freaking out a bit.
- I have multiple visits that my PCM has put in stating I have no limitation in my ROM for my back to include visits where he never even LOOKED at my back. This flabbergasts me because up to this point I have been very impressed with how he's handled things.
- My mental health summaries make me sound like I'm over-reacting to stress. Despite the fact that I have an email FROM the doc that's handling my meds at Mental Health saying my diagnosis is "Anxiety NOS" all my records talk about is stress and a "Adjustment Disorder".

Moving forward my plan is to seek MH care via skype if possible and have a independent ROM done somewhere and start planning for the IMR/Rebuttal letter/appeals process

Any advice?

My husband just did his VA MSC and they went through his records and pulled all of his conditions that he was seen for during his time in service....literally everything. Basically now since you have your records you have a copy of the AHLTA notes there is going to be a list of all of your conditions. You can go through that and get a good determination of what your VA MSC will bring up as conditions. If they miss any.....help them out with your recollection and have them added. We have figured out they won't investigate better than you will, so help them out. Everything will be touched on during your appointments at your VA Physical Evaluation.

As for advice I don't really have much on the lack of documentation, its seems like this is a common occurrence. All you can do is look up what is required to be documented for your conditions to give you a good case and start having your doctors spell it out or like your doing try to have another review some someone else. Details are the key we are finding out. Good luck in the process were right in line with you :)

#5 - VA MSC interview is first thing tomorrow morning. Going through all my records tonight to make sure I'm ready. Not sure how it's going to turn out though as I just realized that my civilian records (3 years worth) never made it into my USAF medical record. Thankfully I have copies, I'm spending the evening scanning them on my SLOWWWWWW scanner so I can email them to my MSC tomorrow. Hopefully that will work until such time they can get them direct from my civilian docs.

usaf1, you said that you will be TDY to states, where are you stationed at right now? I am in the Navy and stationed in Japan but they won't send me TDY to states instead they will PCS me and my whole family. I was wondering if there is any navy regs that will allow me to stay in japan and just TDY/TAD to the state instead of PCS. Anybody know such regs? Thanks

Don't stress about the interview they literally read his conditions then asked if there were any others not listed and that portion was complete then they went over the paperwork which was basic info items.

We're in Japan being sent TDY to CA for a week. AF reg says once MEB is started to remain at your station, not sure about the Navy reg on this.

Thank you - here I was stressing and digging through my records one last time when I probably would be better served crashing early :) Still gonna dig a bit to make sure I'm not overlooking anything. My amazing wife is helping me, don't know where I'd be without her help :)

lol I only can speak so calmly because just days ago my husband was in your shoes. Its not what we expected a lot less critical. Your wife will probably be your go to girl throughout this process :)

She has been and will be my go to girl. She's so good to me :)

#6 Did my interview with my VA MSC over the phone, my claim will have 22 conditions on it. Most of those I don't see earning me a rating but I will say this for them. They sure are thorough!

#7 I will be leaving sometime in the next week for my C&P appts in Sacramento.

Going to try and get my PCM to give me a referral to see a civilian MH provider while I'm there. Glad to be moving to the next step in the process but freaked out over the whole thing. Hopefully I won't be a nervous wreck the majority of the time I'm there :/

#8 - Just finished my C&P appts. Mental Health and TBI is a bit of an unknown at this point but the physical part went much better than expected (see below)

Update time and it's a good one. Went in for the C&P physical today and had a VERY positive experience. I was all braced for one of the A-holes folks talk about all the time that tries to push them past their pain/doesn't listen to them. I had an exact opposite experience. Had a Nurse Practitioner who was very nice, very respectful. He and I connected early on as we both apparently share a love of video games and are from the same faith group. He and I went through my entire list of complaints and talked each one of them over. Big takeaway was that going in knowing rough dates/times for past procedures + having recent X-rays/MRI in my file for the major conditions REALLY made things easier on him and things flowed rather well. I was in and out in less than two hours. He did kinda scare me with talking about my back possibly being a muscular problem vs a skeletal problem - I did need to ask him to do the ROM test and I voiced my concern that I felt my back had bigger issues than a strained muscle. He went into my latest MRI and read it over and said "yep! you're right - let me get this added" - He typed it up and added it in. I asked him what my ROM numbers were and he told me 15-20 degrees both for Flexion and Extension. Looks like things are going well. Now we just wait and see how it looks in his final report!

That's great! It's always good when you find a health care professional who is truly a professional. Hopefully the MH provider gave you their diagnosis so at least you'll know if it concurs with previous diagnosis.

Hello all. I was formally diagnosed with Bipolar disorder a little over a year ago after a 3 week stay in the VA Hospital. At that time, my MEB process was started. To date, my NARSUM is complete, my Commander's Input Letter is done and the package has been forwarded up to National Guard Bureau. My PEBLO tells me that NGB will decide whether or not a Full MEB will be required. I'm not entirely sure what that means, I was under the impression that I was already going through a Full MEB. Nonetheless, the whole experience is pretty mysterious and the PEBLO keeps telling me that she doesnt like giving timelines. I've been assured by my doctor that there is a less than 1% chance that the Air Force will retain me. Naturally, there are a LOT of things that I need to do to prepare for transition out of the Military. Are there any Guardsmen in here who are going through this process?

Anubus, please make a new thread. You are "Hijacking" the original posters thread. We will be more than willing to help you! Just make your own thread as to not impede on USAF1's progression.
