Current Pay Timelines

So I'm in another grey spot.

Trying to align buying a house with my current timeline and using VA disability as a form of income.
Also, moving across country and into a new home, new jobs, etc I'm concerned on the lack of pay in the gap as everyone else.

What is the current timeline on Retirement pay from DoD? Is it held up by Final Pay? If my retire date is Nov 21, will I get a Nov 15 pay? Or is the whole month of November held? Is it anywhere safe to assume my C&P Award will start on 1 Dec and receive pay on the 1st of Jan?

Or is it going to be like march? If I cant put any reliability on the VA payment, I will not be able to buy a house until spring and that really ruins my family plan with 3 dogs. Thoughts?

I hate to say this, but I have been burned on multiple occasions by VA timelines and assurances. I have been waiting on retroactive retirement pay for well over 75 days now and my case is not moving anywhere. I finally got my Senator involved last week. I would suggest to count on it coming later and pray for it to be there sooner.

Well that sucks... thanks for the input.

If you are still on orders, you should see a mid-month pay prior to your final retirement date. Your final retirement pay can be anywhere from 7-30 days after the date on the orders. The last paycheck takes a few days extra because they look around to see if there is any debt owed to the government to offset it.

You can also file for unemployment insurance in the state that you live in when you are medically retired.

This is how I was able to keep up my pay when my medical retirement kicked in...

1.) Filed for VA Vocational Rehab while still on active duty. Was approved and started my educational plan (no pay from VA because I was still on active duty)

2.) Was medically retired on May 7, 2014, got my final paycheck around the 17th which contained all of my leave I sold back.

3.) Immediately filed for CA state unemployment and was approved, because I was in a state approved rehabilitation program, I was eligible to turn my unemployment benefits (which would have been up to 6 months) into rehabilitation benefits for 12 months @ $1900.00 per month

4.) Turned my DD-214 into Voc Rehab and began to receive the Post 9/11 GI Bill stipend which was $2499.00 per month

5.) VA C&P was finalized on June 1st with and award date of June 1st. On July 1st I received my first C&P payment of $3068.90, plus my P9/11 stipend of $2499 and bi-weekly rehabilitation payments of $900.00.

Very nice! Yeah, you gave me some awesome info on the Voc Rehab before.

I applied for Voc Rehab and have already finished the testing. Not assigned a counselor until I'm final rated. I'm relocating to denver on transition so I'll be attending school there as of 10/24. Retire date is tentative for 11/21 so hopefully I'll be able to get a couple weeks of BAH in there before Christmas break. The rate is $1995 in Denver.

I got a GS-6 Job at the VA in Denver, so that will be coming in probably right as my last AD norm check comes on 11/15. And final pay comes whenever it comes.

Hopefully 1/1/17 I'll receive my first C&P Payment of $1680.

I hope so too!

DFAS has had my back dated retirement orders since June and I still haven't received any pay. Finally got my Senator involved. 3 months is far too long

From my retirement counselor, apparently the current timeline is pretty well on the 1st following, and payment the 1st after that. So I should get VA 1 January.... Just hope some retirement pay comes in quick.

Based upon the percentages you have listed in your timeline, do not expect to see any retirement pay.

Your VA C&P should be somewhere in the range of $1600 per month (depending on variables such as dependents).

If your retired pay base (average of top three) is $4000 or less, the entire pay will be offset by VA C&P.

I meant retirement pay on the in-between before VA kicks in..

Ughhh
Any good news?......?????

DFAS received my orders Nov 8. I forwarded VA audit and recoupment letter to them on Nov 15. the CSR i spoke to that day said the 2 DD2656 cancelled each other out she would reinstate and put a rush on give 10 days. Day 10 ...kicked to "LEAD" said would push to 3 day response....but my ssn was not in system for retired... kicked to another CSR, she said they had 30 days from DA Orders to put me in system, DEC 8th still not showing in system, 3 day team said transferring to "LEAD Supervisor" using $3 words that did not correlate to our topic of discussion basically said she couldn't talk to "processors" but it looked like there were two of them "processors" working on it.
My best guess:
10 years back pay at 40%
CRDP kicking in 6 Jun 2010
VA owes me Recoupment (oh yeah forgot when I requested my audit, it kicked me into a VA Eligibility Rating Review???)
Fun Fun Fun
Kids and wife have ID cards and Tricare is working!!!!
Merry Christmas you'all!!!
