CRSC Estimate-- brookstedd604

Appreciate it. You know you stuff! My total VA Compensation did go up even though I was already at 100% due to the SMC. So, are you saying that my CRSC will go up by the same amount? Thanks so much for the info.

Yes. Not sure if its automatic or if you need to apply for the CRSC part. I am not as educated on CRSC.

Hello all,

CRSC has always confused the crap out of me as well.

I have been out since 2013. When I retired, I was 60% from the Army, 90% from the VA.
My VA has gone up to 100%, I was unsure if I should bother even applying for a CRSC reconsideration.

Would it increase, or would my VA offset already be maxed out?

So do what I mentioned earlier about calculating your earned pension. That is the value of your pension based on a regular retirement. Add that number to VA total compensation. If your chapter 61 retirement is less than that amount you are losing money due to the VA offset. CRSC is to help you claw back money lost due to VA offset for those who didn't reach 20 years to earn a regular retirement. So how valuable CRSC is depends on several variables. For someone who served 4 years there isn't much or even any CRSC that they can get. If you served 16 years there is probably a lot of money left on the table. How much or little to recoup depends on your chapter 61 pension. If you have maxed out 75% DOD its possible you are getting the most you can get by law. If your DOD% is 30% you probably are losing out a lot more to that VA offset.

Gotcha.

I’ll have to go back and calculate high 3 based off 2010-2013 rates.

I was O1E from may 2011-may 2013.
1 month as SSG before that, and 2 yrs of E5 prior. I did a total of just over 9 yrs.

I think I was up over $3000 for high three.

When I got out, I remember being 60% DOD 90% VA.

In 2016 my rate increased to 100% VA, but I never applied for CRSC re-evaluation.

I just did a rough calculation…
My high 3 is about 3500.
My VA pay is 3800.

Current CRSC is 1000ish

If you already have CRSC you probably are maxed out. All you have to do is check your CRSC %. If your % using VA pay tables is above $1,000 then you are probably capped as that $1,000 makes you whole to recoup the loss from the VA offset.
