Criticism of Veterans Affairs Secretary Mounts Over Backlog in Claims

So this VA backlog....everyone keeps talking about "veterans." Is this backlog MOSTLY effecting them or those on active duty the most?

Or are we all considered veterans at this time?

Yes you are a "Veteran"
The Back Log effects everyone but when they talk about claims more than a year old...
they are really talking about Veterans that filed when they either left active duty or returned
from a deployment and were reservist or National Guard

Ok so most people complaining about the back log are not currently active duty aka not in the IDES system?

Some of us were in the IDES system while active duty and released without a VA rating and still have no VA rating. Medically seperated and retired, and waiting 570+ days.

Might not be active duty anymore, but was in the IDES system.

Not just "complaining".

I believe not, I also believe that the IDES System may have caused a small part of it... but so do the increase in claims from the war effort, VA's antiquated systems and their resistance to change

Woah how and why (if you dont mind me asking) did they release you without your ratings first? Was it because you did not medically extend? That's the road I am about to head down real soon.

And just because We're no longer active duty shouldn't mean a veteran shoould be less heard or helped.

I missed the "Wounded Warrior" program by 3 weeks due to my orders. Extension was denied. Actually my PEBLO refused to submit it.

Some of us Legacy members are still waiting for our initial ratings. This system is beyond broke and rediculous.

How is it possible that you went through the IDES process and didn't leave with a proposed rating...

No one was saying that... Claims that are over a year old are more than likely NOT ON ACTIVE DUTY, that doesn't mean that the problem doesn't exist or that their claims are any less important!!!

I was Legacy and retired in Sept 2012, But I filed a BDD CLAIM before I my retirement date. My Award Letter came in JAN 2013. A BDD is a completed claim...

I don't really understand what the active duty part is about. The active duty are getting a 2 month turn around on their VA ratings. So they are not the ones waiting over a year.

No we should all get a true opportunity to get ratings in a timely manner. It is just really crappy that we have to suffer and then suffer some more.

Both systems need to be fixed!!

I did also during my outprocessing and TAPS. And still waiting. BDD is not a completed claim. It only has room for 9 claims and some of us have more.

Well imagine all the hell and stress the MEB and Formal board caused for 9+ months. I was there too. And then getting out and having to do it all over again for 2 years with the VA.

What Wounded Warrior Program... Do you mean a Warrior Transition Unit?

I FILED A BDD WITH 32 CLAIMS... AND IT IS A COMPLETED CLAIM (that is the distinction that makes it different)

Yes. Now members get everything done and laid out before they have to return to civilian life. They can prepare and get they help they need before getting out of the military. They even get their VA ratings, CRCS, everything, before hand.

I was given a Dod rating and kicked to the curb 2 months later. I can't even get the VA to cover my gas for mandatory appointments and medical appointments because I don't have my rating. I've been getting billed from the VA for getting care and meds for items I was MEDICALLY RETIRED for because even though I have service connection proof, hello-MEB ratings, it is not considered service related until a VA rating comes. I can't get treatment or seen for things because the sytem is awful and everytime I try to get any of this fixed, I get told "Oh we're not responsible for that" transfer, transfer, transfer, again you need a VA rating to qualify.

I can't even look for a VA or gov jovb and get the points because I don't have a rating yet.

So I get put on PAUSE for 2 years of care because I can't get a freakin VA rating.

Well they need to inform the Outprocessing civilians at all the units. Because I did mine online with the civilian and it only had room for 9 and he said "oh put the 9 worst ones" they'll find the others during your records review. Yeah- BS.

Been told a lot that the info they give us is wrong, so don't yell at me.
