I am currently 100% dod tdrl and 100% VA. I just had my final tdrl eval after just under 5 years. I did 4 years active duty and 3 years reserve.

Do I have to wait until my final DOD-PDRL rating comes back “before” I apply for CRSC?

Or is CRSC something I should have applied for almost 5 years ago when I first got put on DOD 100% TDRL?

I just want the tricare for my wife and kids sake but I am curious as to “when” someone applies for CRSC?? Is it when they get put on Pdrl or Tdrl? Or does it not even matter cause you get retro?

Also if I wait until I receive my pdrl final rating to apply for crsc, then will the “retro” be back dated until 5 years ago when i was first put on TDRL?

OR DOES RETRO go back to the time I was injured in combat?

OR does the retro just come after you file for the CRSC? If thats the case I’d have cost my family 5 years of CRSC $, right?

Hope that wasnt too confusing? I tried finding an answer but just cant figure it out..? This forum is great though. Thanks

P. S. Ron if you could respond I’d be so grateful. Anyone else to, thank you

This post kind of applies to me as well. I had my final TDRL appointment August 2nd, and just received my findings Friday for PDRL. In my letter it states that everything will kick in around 12 weeks. I’ll stay in touch with you so we can navigate this together

Apply for the CRSC, the back pay is based upon your current/old ratings. If they change for the positive or negative, you just need to resubmit for the upgrade or down grade.

There is a 6 year backpay limit on CRSC.

The only kicker here is if they gave you severance determination, then they would Stop CRSC.

Hello,

Ref 9: I think I have already replied to some of your questions. Maybe I have confused you with someone else. My remarks were:
"1. 10% from the DOD does not qualify for retirement. One of the requirements for CRSC is retired status.
2. 30% is the minimum DoD percentage which qualifies one for retired pay.
3. The CRSC approval letter will cite the effective date. If eligible for CRSC for the entire five years then it is likely the effective date will be retroactive for that period. There is a six-year barring law which limits retroactive payments.
4. Purposely waiting a long period of time to file a claim is problematic in my opinion. Note: If one is no longer in a retired status when they file a claim, the process is more complex. I don’t know if the Human Resources Command would process such an application."

Ref 2 & 3: It would have been better to apply as soon as you were placed on the TDRL.

Ref 4: It would have adviseable for you to apply for CRSC upon being placed on TDRL; you do not have to wait for PDRL; in fact, not everyone remains on a retired list after TDRL.

Ref 5: Don't wait is my recommendation. The CRSC approval will cite the effective date. Many approvals have retroactive dates.

Ref 6: One has to be in a retired status and waive retired pay in the amount of VA compensation to be eligible for CRSC consideration.

Ref 7: A retroactive date can cover the period you have been in a retired status and have CRSC approval.

Ron
