Conditions that no longer affect you

To have something service connected by the VA, does it still have to bother you? I was looking thru my Army Med Records and founds things like "Ankle sprain", "shin splints" "Tennis Elbow", "Double Vision", "Bronchitis", "Pneumonia", "Hypertension", "Sinusitis", etc...

Im wondering... Most of the things have no residual effect on me anymore. Can these be service connected at 0% for the future, or would the VA justifiably deny it because its no longer an issue?

What you were seeing is "autocyte" conditions, basically anything that was documented during any trips to medical throughout your career. You should claim each and every single condition that occurred in service or was aggravated by service.

Agree with gsfowler - what seems like a little thing now may play out differently in the future, and certain illnesses start out with little symptoms, but down the raod you can see the relationship. It is better to let the VA work on those things now, than try to prove a case 20 years down the road. Bob

A Comptroller General decision stated that if a condition was healed and non-symptomatic at time of discharge and remains that way, it is not ratable.

"Establishing service connection generally requires medical or, in certain circumstances, lay evidence of (1) a current disability; (2) an in-service incurrence or aggravation of a disease or injury; and (3) a nexus between the claimed in- service disease or injury and the present disability." Davidson v. Shinseki, 581 F.3d 1313 (Fed. Cir. 2009). (Emphasis added).

In my opinion you should claim everything. The VA will determine what is compensable, the military will determine what is unfitting.

Once they have made their decision, you should check it for accuracy.
