nwlivewire,

Good afternoon, Ma'am. Thank you for your very kind note.

My son was medically retired from the USMC 70% DoD/100% VA, 2.5 years ago after a 2+ year process. We ensured he had what he needed throughout the process. When the system failed we thought it was a fluke and filled the gap.
Now I find myself in the IDES process. Things have gone well for me thus far, but I've been around the block (several times).

Unfortunately, I've come to realize many "leaders" are not the least bit engaged with or for their warriors and that perturbs me to the Nth degree. We owe our wounded and ill the ability to serve or separate with dignity and respect. After I tap out, I'll engage other resources to advocate for a better process.

Brett Nutter,

Thank you, Sir. My first goal is to work on getting my health stabilized, then spend some time with my bride travelling, and eventually to provide care for other military families. Again, thank you for you well wishes.

I sure hope your application for SSDI goes quickly.

I have been reading that many applications that go thru the WTU SFAC go more quickly and have a higher odds of being approved on the first go round with SSA/SSDI (as opposed to 1-1 1/2 years with SSDI appeals).

Sure hope yours is fast-tracked and gets the OK quickly.

I completed the online application on Sunday and received a call from SS on Monday. So right of the bat SS furnishes me with a name and phone number, that was impressive. They told me to expect an answer within 60 days. Time will tell. Hope your trip to Asia goes well. Best wishes. Mike

Dear CC:

I am so happy for you!

To see it took only 6 months from start of SSDI application to approval and payment - well, this is just the greatest ever!

Thank-you for all you have done for everyone on this site.

Dear CC:

I have another 18 months (+/- a few) of being in CONUS.

Currently going through final stages of dealing with IRS and will depart ASAP for a 3-5 year adventure when this is resolved.

My hope is to be complete my degree, and then become involved with an organization such as this one below:

http://www.cambodiaschools.com/

http://www.cambodiaschools.com/our-programs/rural-schools-program/

When I visited Cambodia back in 2003, my spirit was really touched by the needs of the peoples who live in the rural areas where I visited. I hope to turn my time and attention to a community in that region and directly contribute toward creating solutions that will satisfy their desires that their children have access to the most basic and very rudimentary beginnings of a K-6 education.

As soon as my CONUS affairs are settled where I know with reasonable certainty I can be absent for 3-5 years, the first thing I'll be doing - and do so before I take my seat at school - is to take a few months to travel and explore/experience certain areas of SE Asia I've not yet seen - especially Vietnam and parts of Malaysia.

So we'll see how this shakes out. Right now, I'm stuck in a "hold pattern" - just waiting for the US Gov't (IRS and DoD) to get through doing their thing with me. So maybe in about 18 months or so I can finally call this CONUS movie a "wrap" and be on my way.

I'll tell you what CC. If someone had told me in advance of what was going to transpire in my life these past 10 years, I would have thought them crazy, or they had the wrong person - that they dialed the wrong number. No way!

But things do and did happen. And I did manage to survive in spite of some pretty tough times, and in spite of my mis-steps and initial inability to cope in healthy ways with some issues and circumstances.

And as odd as this sounds, when I look back at this past decade of my life, it seems as though while I have lost so much, I have also been given as much or more. Just not in measures of what I was wanting or expecting.

It's like I've been given a whole different color palette and set of new brushes to paint with. And of course I ask myself, "Hmmmm. What do I do with this? What can I do with these new and different colors of my life?"

So this is where my head, heart and hands are at - right at this moment anyway.

I guess more will be revealed as the paint goes to canvas.

Thanks for reading!

NWLiveWire,

It appears your life has changed in many ways. The gift of a school/teaching sounds like a great way to make a difference in the lives of others. Americans that have never seen any of the many 3rd world countries, most of the earth, have no concept of the divide. Blessings as you continue to pursue your new venture. It sounds rewarding.

Mike
