Hello!

I got a letter back at the end of July, stating my information has been collected and my case was sent to the PDBR Board to make it's recommendation.

Does anyone know how long the rest of the process may take?

Also, once the Board sends their recommendation to the Air Force (my branch) and IF they decided to up my percentage, how long does it take for me to actually start seeing payment.

I am 19 months into my case. They received my case back in March 2016.

Thank you for all your help!

Mine took just under two years to receive a decisions. Mine was 10% changed to 30%. I received orders and new DD214 approx 3 months later. DFAS has my paperwork, but still waiting on retired pay and back pay.

Thanks for the info Perci. How long has it been since you received the decision?

Just over four months ago I received my decisions. My timeline has not been typical for most retiring AF in this situation. Most I have seen on this forum have been waiting much longer (months) for their orders and new DD 214. I dont have a good answer on why my timeline has been so different?

Basically what I am asking... you got your orders 3 months after getting your decision letter. When you got your orders, did you have to send something back? What do you have to do after getting your orders. How long have you been waiting on DFAS for your payment?

Do you remember how long it took for the AF to make their decision after getting the suggestion from the PDBR board?

Quite honestly I forgot I was even in PDBR process when I got my letter. I never followed up in between signing the paperwork to reevaluate my records and receiving the decision. My envelope consisted of the board results as well as a letter from the Air Force stating they concurred with the results. If you get 30% or more you will get retired and the letter states you have to call AFPC to get in line to get briefed on your Survivor Benefit Plan. For the Air Force, the SBP (DD Form 2656) is the start of the process and this initial step takes approx. 60 days to get this briefing and paperwork sent out.

Up until recently, I had almost the same exact timeline as Perci75. I too submitted the original forms years ago and forgot about them. received the letter saying that it was approved and I would be changed from 20% to 30% and permanent retired list. Got that letter on June 10th. Contacted AFPC to get my SBP briefing set up on June 11th. Did my SBP briefing and signed papers on July 24th. That is where our timelines start ti differ.... things went slower for me. I got my letter saying that my records would be updated in September (letter dated 17 September). I still have not seen or received an updated DD214 or retirement orders (which are needed to get a retiree ID card). As I understand it the DFAS portion wont take place until 30-60 days after DD-214 and orders are received.

I'm February 2016, hopefully mine is soon! My only question is, I immediately applied for VA benefits after I was discharged and was approved for 20% and then a couple years later went up to 40, then 50, and now 80 almost 10 years later. So if my PDBR increases to 30% or above. How does that back pay get calculated since I've been above and below whatever rating they may give me. (Hope this makes sense) thanks

With your consistent raises in VA ratings, not sure how this would work. Looks like you had a period of time where your retirement would have been more then your VA disability, so there maybe some back pay due to you.

BTW, how did your VA disability keep getting raised? Did you appeal or did VA automatically give you the increase?

My conditions got worse and throughout the years I submitted new claims. Was rated at 20% for a PCL tear. Pain and instability increased so I submitted new claim to increase my rating for that. Got the X-rays, new MRI and they saw severe arthritis and increased instability. A couple years later developed anxiety and depression due to lack of activity, weight gain, and recurring thoughts etc. So I submitted a claim and they determined it was service connected secondaey to my initial condition. Then I developed back pain, disc bulging, sciatica and then same thing I got rated for back problems secondary to my service connected injury. I've been very fornunate but I'd take no pain and depression over the money any day.

I understand and thanks for posting your history. I have to file another claim or adjust my current rating with VA now as well, because of the new PDBR rating. I was rated 10% DOD and 10% VA. Now that my DOD is 30% I have to file a claim to VA to bring my VA rating up to 30%. Combined I will be 40% (I have 10% for knee issues as well) and this would be a few dollars more then my retirement pay without taxes. I cant file another VA claim until I get my first retirement check from DFAS.
