I called the PDBR at Randolph AFB and talked with Cindy. I asked if they had received my files from the regional office in Houston due to the fact i was told they have a hard getting records. Cindy stated to me that they had received everything on November 18th, that this person Lonnie (female) is my case manager would review it and send it to the board. Now my anxiety issues has just jumped 400%. She stated this was one of the fastest records request she has seen in a long time. She said not to get my hopes up but i stated that i just want to help and make sure she gets everything they need as i know a few people on the inside (VBA) at houston. So i am anxious but also know that my chances are 50/50. Eventhough i have a good case. My question now is once everything is reviewed how long does it sit at the board? Any ideas or thoughts???? Time for my blue pill!!

Well, I talked with my case manager and it is not as fast as i was thinking. She stated she was going to review everything next week and then if there is nothing else that is needed she would forward everything to the Board in Virginia( did not know this). They are just an intake unit that gathers everything and then sends it up to Crystal City Virginia. From there it is going to take awhile up to a year if not more. Apparently, there is a lawsuit going on with something to do with PTSD. The cases are taking longer due to this she stated. So their you have it, learn something new everyday!!!

It is the Sabo case which can be read about in various post on pebforum.

Well, my packet is being mailed off to the board tomorrow (Friday) in Crystal City. I talked with my case manager and she has received everything that is needed and now we wait.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if all cases are taking longer due to the Sabo case/lawsuit or only those cases related to PTSD/mental health? It is logical that mental health/PTSD cases may be held up, but I wonder if a strictly orthopedic case would be held up? Thanks!

brnt,

After talking with folks at the intake unit at Randolph AFB, Yes it is going to take longer for the Board to go through each case. They are hoping to have more doctors for 2011 but we will see. When did you file and what was your docket number?

Commosgt,

I have not sent my package in yet. I have it ready but am just nervous about not having everything right. I know I should just get over it and send it in since I can only gain from it. Since it is a one shot deal with no chance to contest the board decision, I have been hesitant though. I think I have a good shot a retirement. I was injured in the line of duty (crushed foot/ankle sprain) and was discharged at 10% severance. My VA rating was at 30% for the same condition and effective the day after discharge. My narsum was not drafted by my ortho doc since he was deployed before he could write it. Instead, another doctor (that I never met) reviewed my records and prepared the document. There are things that are not correct in it. The AF discharged me at 10% for hammertoes, and while the VA said I have mild hammertoe, it is only part several residuals from my foot/ankle injury. I think the VA rating is accurate and if the board goes by that, I should be retired (that is about 12-18 months after I submit the package!).

Brnt, I was in the same boat as yourself (nervous). I originally posted on this site over a year ago (give or take) thanking jason for being a true all american for putting this site up and it has taken me this long to submit with help from LTC Mike Parker. You will never know unless you fight and try!!! Remember this the issues with your feet and toes will continue to cause you issues with your knees, hips, and back over time. What i would do (my opinion) is ask jason or mike what they think and then move forward. Again by not submitting you will never know but atleast get your doc's to document and/or write a letter on your behalf about your issues. The more of a paper trail the better (includes VA and civilian).
