I am a long time lurker but this is my first post.
For a little background: Been active duty Air Force for 7 years. Recently diagnosed with Bipolar II after a long run of failed medications. I have also had suicidal ideation and it has been terribly difficult for me to do my job and perform at an NCO's level. I have been hospitalized 3 times and am now on Lithium and a cocktail of other medications to try to keep me steady.
I was told a week ago that I could choose IDES or LDES. I chose IDES. Then a few days later I was told that now my options are to do the LDES (which would have me out of the military within a few weeks from what I've been told) or get sent to an AMTU either in my hometown or in the town I plan on living in once all of this is over.
I feel nervous because both options would see me moving within 2 months and I do not feel prepared to be out of the military and not having it's financial and mental health support.
The way that is was explained initially, I thought I made the choice on what to do. But now it seems that it's all up to the medical board. I honestly feel like they just want to get rid of me so I'm off their books.
Is there anything I can do to help lean towards the AMTU in the town I will be living in as opposed to the LDES? At least at an AMTU I still get a paycheck and have access to doctors for continued care.
