Behavior Health Question

My psychiatrist seems to be doing everything her own way. First off it too months before she gave me a diagnosis after i had a civilian physch eval as proof of the issue. Now she does not want to submit a MEB yet, but she is going to email the MEB ask for recommendations. She doesn't want to submit the MEB as she doesn't know if she has evaluated me long enough and doesn't know if they will agree with the diagnoses. Can anyone help me as to if this is normal or am i just being pulled around? I'm tempted to switch psychiatrists.

Sounds like she is doing her job. From what you have described, it seems your doctor doesn’t feel the need to initiate the MEB process due to your conditions not being severe enough. I think continuing to follow up with appointments and seeking improvement to continue to serve is the path your doctor is recommending. Which is a good thing, unless you are deliberately taking this path and not wanting to fulfill your duty and obligations. If you feel your doctor may be incorrect, I recommend pursuing a second opinion.

A MH diagnosis doesn't automatically trigger a MEB. Each service has its own standards as to retention/separation.

Sometimes a psychiatric diagnosis is complex. TBI v. PTSD is an example. I'd much rather see a MH practitioner take their time, than jump to a hasty conclusion. A proper diagnosis drives proper treatment. A misdiagnosis could could create lifelong fallout.

In most cases, multiple attempts at treatment should precede a MEB. Many MH diagnoses respond well to treatment. In some cases, treatment failure, would not result in an MEB because the symptoms don't meet the severity level to give rise to separation.
