So, got DoD 20% with severence. PEBLO did the worksheet and once I asked my question, it threw her for a loop and she told to ask finance. Figured I'd start here
I have 12 years Active Time
1 year Reserves,
6 years Guard
Currently being paid for over 18 years of service. I saw that for the severance they can calculate guard and reserve time into the mix, but the PEBLO didn't know how it worked.
Any finance gurus have any thoughts on the subject?
FMR volume 7A, chapter 35 is your reference. 350203 goes over service comp.
D. Count periods of active military service in a Regular or Reserve Component. Include active duty for training performed on or after August 10, 1956.
That isn't 100% clear. Usually when talking about reserve periods, they talk about points and stuff if using a weirder calculation (i.e. retirement). Active, in this context, should be to clarified between reservists and IRR (they throw in duty after active for when you have to be activated/deployed). I believe they should treat it like years of service on a LES, where a reserve year is the same as an AD year for pay purposes. So I think that means it should be calculated at 19 years instead of 12.

"350503. Computation A. Formula. To compute disability severance pay, multiply the sum of basic pay for 2 months by the number of combined years (but not over 19) of active service and inactive duty points. Do not include as basic pay the 25-percent increase prescribed under certain conditions for a Navy or Marine Corps member retained on active duty after enlistment expires.
B. Years of Service. There is no minimum amount of performed service time required to be eligible for disability severance pay. The member’s separation orders will specify the total combined years of active service and inactive duty points to be counted in computing
severance pay. Round this total to the nearest whole year, with 6 months or more rounded up. The maximum number of years of service for computing the disability severance pay will be 19 years...."
So, take your twelve years and add the inactive duty points you earned as a member of reserve component. (You will need to look at your points statement to figure the points earned....for example, you may have had time, in addition to drill periods and annual training for military schools, deployments, TDY, etc.).
