Feb 2015- RILO completed
Late Feb 2015- AFPC requests letter from CC for status- Recommended retain as no impact to duty.
13 Mar 2015- ***Based upon various factors, this member cannot be returned to duty via Initial RILO. Instead, the case must be submitted as a full MEB. Please do a full MEB as noted above, and send it to AFPC/DPSD (Disability Division) as a "Refer to IPEB" case. Please do NOT submit to AFPC/DPANM as a "Return to Duty" case. You have three months to get the case to the IPEB to allow time for routing it through the VA. Please don't delay - start the case now so that it gets here by the suspense. Thank you.

Diabetes. Type 2 has progressed into type 1, now insulin dependent. Also, possible asthma to be determined with lung function tests. My VA rep has helped me identify around 20 issues to be looked at through the VA though.

Who told you that your type-2 diabetes progressed to type-1? My husband is a type-1 diabetic (actually, LADA). While there are some gray areas in terms of diagnosis, type-2 does not "become" type 1. One of the following should be true: 1. You are type-2 who has become insulin dependent due to insulin resistance; 2. You are actually a type 1.5 (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults/LADA) whose pancreas was initially still functioning in the "honeymoon" phase and then, when the islet cells were definitely destroyed, became insulin dependent; or 3. You were misdiagnosed initially as type-2. The only way to tell the difference is to get a C-petptide and Gad antibody test to see if your pancreas produces insulin. If the antibodies are present, you have type-1. Type-2s often produce insulin, but the insulin isn't absorbed well enough (insulin resistance) so it causes the pancreas to overproduce insulin in order to get enough absorbed for energy. Since insulin is a growth-hormone, this overproduction of insulin is often why type-2s typically have issues with weight. Hope this is helpful information for your desired outcome.

Since last time I put up my update, the package was sent up the 3rd week of January. I got my results today...
20% severance package from Air Force/ 90% VA.
 
aamonroe, yes, Endo diagnosed as LADA- type 1.5, however, since there is no distinction between type 1 or type 2, and none else has heard of LADA, it was easier to just say I've shifted into type 1. Thanks for the info though!

Ok, gotcha. I thought this might be one of those misinformed military medical personnel situations. You are correct in that few (including medical people, particularly if they're not versed in endocrinology) have heard of 1.5; most people think I'm joking when I say it! Are you going to fight the 20% and try to get retired?
 
Yes. I signed the paperwork on the 31st to go to the FPEB to fight for the Asthma to be rated so I can be medically retired. At the end of the day, I know I'm not going to get any money from the Air Force, but I do want to keep the benefits, mostly my medical.

I wish you nothing but luck! We would have happily given up the severance for benefits, if only to be able to take our kids to visit the bases we've been stationed at:(
 
Ok, So I am at Randolph now. Apparently, they want to see me. Will post results after hearing Thursday.

So great news!! I received my results from the Formal board last Thursday evening---
60% TDRL!
Family is super excited I get to come home after almost 1 1/2 years of waiting around ( went ahead and moved wife and kids so we wouldn't move in the middle of school year). Just waiting on orders now.
