Backpay after IDES?

Hi all,

Kinda new to lots of this lingo, but currently active duty going through PEB phase now of IDES. I’ve been told by some VA contacts that I am eligible for backpay to the start of the medboard process. Then others say backpay only to your date of discharge out of active duty. Thoughts or experiences on this validating either? For active members who went through MEB/PEB. Navy here.

Just trying to manage expectations for our family going forwards and make a plan. Thanks.

You don't get backpay as your VA compensations starts once you get out. By law the VA can't compensate you for any periods that you are serving on active duty.

@Provis A+

and…
the earliest possible VA payment will involve:

1. The earliest effective date is the day after your discharge.
2. VA comp begins to accrue the first day of the month following the effective date month.
3. The first payment will be on the first day of the month following the accrual month.
4. Example
—discharge = 25 March
—effective date = 26 March
—initial accrual = 1-30 April
—first payment = on/about 1 May (for the month of April)

Okay! Thanks everyone. That’s what I thought and the timeline is really helpful. Sounds good.
