Back vs. PTSD MEB

hello all, this is my first post on this forum.

I was evacuated from Iraq in May 2010, I was Diagnosed with PTSD in Jun 2009, and deployed Sep 7 2009.

I injured my back during PT in Iraq in Nov 2009.

since retuning home I have been to, Freedom Care in Portland, the local (Tripler) Phyc ward for PTSD and to the VA's 9 week residential treatment.

I have been in the WTB since being sent home and today was the 1st time I have seen the WTB's psychiatrist. A P3 profile has been completed for my back, and on Monday I start my MEB for my Back, I have not seen the same psychiatrist more than twice because treatment programs, and the turnover rate at the local SAC so needless to say my Phyc profile has not been started. I knowe that a P3 profile starts the MEB process, but how will this effect me? as my primary should be PTSD because that is what I was sent home for, and diagnosed prior to deployment, and what my primary treatment has been for? will it make a differance that the PTSD is in an addendum rather than primary?

thanks
Bryan

The MEB must state all conditions that are unfitting and refer them to the PEB.

**Things to check**

Make sure you get a P3/P4 profile for your PTSD. You can usually get one of these after going through any inpatient or outpatient program that lasts longer than 30 days. I know you can get it for your doc as well.

Don't let the Peblo BS you like so many have been... Make sure PTSD is on there (if you have it)

I went through half of my board without it but now it's on because I stayed to my guns and read alot on this forum.

Btw, were in the same boat condition wise. back, ptsd and some others.. Good Luck and just stay cool.

Bryan,

Welcome! It is important to have a P3 in the PULHES "S" block because this indicates that you fail retention standards and the PEB's often cite to the presence or lack thereof in making the fitness determination. It does not matter if this comes via an addendum or if it is the the "primary" NARSUM (and it is fairly common to see psychiatric conditions done via addendum; in part I think this is because the regulations state that an MEB must include the signature of a psychiatrist and they don't always get this originally...the lack of the psychiatrist signature on the MEB (vice the summary or the addendum) can be a legal issue....however, if everything is written favorably and the PEB comes back with a correct decision, it doesn't really matter, because you will be happy with the outcome...I mean to say, they can screw some procedural things up, but if you are pleased with the outcome, then it really doesn't matter).

If you have been in-patient for PTSD (which it sounds like you have been), then it seems highly likely they will include your PTSD in your MEB. It is also not unusual to get an updated profile issued during the MEB process.

I hope all goes well for you!

MEBs are forbidden on stating if a conditon is unfitting or not. Per DoDI 1332.38 MEBs must include all conditons with full clinical data. The PEB then determines which of those conditons contribute to unfitness.
