Awaiting Informal Results

My AF MEB progressed to the PEB stage, and after completing C&P exams in December, and it's been sent to the informal board.

My condition has progressed, and on going treatment has uncovered new symptoms that aren't covered in the initial NARSUM from last September that initiated this whole process.

My understanding is that I'm probably going to have to appeal, and appear before a formal board to have these new symptoms reflected.

Any advice on how to spend this time waiting? Any new documentation supplied to my PCM from the specialist won't be considered at this stage since it wasn't in the package of records sent to the informal board correct?

What actions would you recommend upon receiving the informal board results?

Thanks!

Gotta take that deep breath and wait to see what the informal board comes back with.

As soon as you get the informal board results, you'll want to contact the OAC (Office of Airmen's Counsel) DSN 665-0739 or 210-565-0739.

You may want to contact them now and talk to a paralegal there to see what they will want from you on the day you get your informal board results back.

Also, who knows, you may get a result that you find acceptable from the informal board.

If the PEB comes back with an unfit finding, you can have your additional medical information added to your package that the VA will use for ratings. Since the DOD uses the ratings from the VA, your rating from DOD (for unfitting conditions) will be based off the newly added info you provide to the VA.

I'd go through your PEBLO, obviously, but likely it's the MSC that actually adds the new information into your file at the VA.

I'm in a similar situation. Waiting for PEB fit/unfit, but now have more medical documentation to add to my package. Difference is, my new info is for a separate condition not being looked at by PEB. The separate condition, however, I expect to be my "largest" rating %, even though not unfitting for DOD. Once PEB decides, I am expecting UNFIT, I'll be having my PEBLO pull a new/current AHLTA record, and have that included in my package that the VA will use for ratings.

--break--

If the PEB comes back with FIT, and you want to fight it based on new info, the formal board is probably your most expedient option. If your new evidence supports your case, it should be pretty smooth.

You will want to start preparing an updated NARSUM. The docs are busy, so let them know now that it will be needed. Whether the boards should require all new info be included in a NARSUM or addendum, I do not believe the regulations support that they should. But as a practical matter, this is what they seem to be requiring.

All,
Does anyone have any input on current IPEB processing times? My packet was sent to FT Sam weeks ago since I'm Army and I have yet to receive fit/unfit memo. Thanks

It's completely random. I and others have been waiting for months, not just weeks. Some people that entered the process after me have already finished. So there is no good answer to this question. Also, using the search box at the top of the page can help you find a lot of info on common subjects.
