So I'm in the early process of facing a med board. Have a few different things going on that the VA may rate me for but the big one at the moment that the Air Force is looking at is Degenerative Disk Disease\Back pain. T5-T6 if I remember correctly.
My PCM has sent me a NARSUM asking me to fill it out myself. Is this common pratice? I'm reading through the posts here and it sounds like I may be in a good position by writing at least the draft myself but I'm trying to figure out how to word things.
My job [at this base] is primarily a desk job although it can be more demanding elsewhere, I can do almost all that is asked of me. Anything physical is where things stop though. I helped to some light office re-org (moving computers/small boxes of office supplies) and it made my pain go through the roof. I'm on duty restrictions which state
No running > 110 yards except as tolerated
No repetitive jumping except as tolerated
No pushing, carrying, or lifting >20 lbs except as tolerated
No repetitive flexion or extension of the lower back except as tolerated
I would prefer an "unfit" finding but since this impacts a small part of my day to day at my current base I'm not sure how likely that is to happen. I'm also in a bit of limbo right now as I'm pending a Flight Physical that will determine if I can stay in my current career field. I know I won't meet the flight med standards, unsure of how that may/will affect this whole process moving forward.
Thoughts/Advice would be greatly appreciated

Seriously, though, I agree with others here...the member does not write their own NARSUM. The NARSUM is a narrative of a compilation of your records, treatments and a prognosis...all of which demand proper medical training (as good as the military has to offer, that is
) . I would think the PEB would not accept a NARSUM written by a member. As TSgt Twitch mentioned, it is common practice to submit your own completed copy of the NMA for your commands consideration, but the NARSUM....no.
