Aid an Attendance

Private doctors? Does your VA doctors not? An exam will be set up to see for themselves some granted, some denied others get proposed decreases or lose P&T status just depends how strong the evidence is a VSO looking over you file can give you a clearer answer.

Aid and Attendance is limited to people eligible for a VA pension.
You must have a low income to be eligible for a pension.

(pension is different than C&P)

Thanks for clarifying Sir. I guess I am looking at smc-L due to Aid & Attendance.
Is SMC-S due to the 100% + combined 60% rule true? Can for instance 50% from sleep Apnea and say 30% combine to fulfill the 60% required?

Has anyone claimed A&A? If so, was it hard to provide evidence to get it approved? Will private doctor's notes suffice?

The form that needs to be completed is the VA Form 21-2680. It has some pretty significant criteria, however, if you need it, you need it.

That's just not true. Requirements for A&A can be found under Section H. Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) of the M21. You may be thinking of the "Special Monthly Pension" criteria; that is based on income.

Yes, SMC S is a single rating at 100%, plus additional ratings that equal 60%. A 50% and a 30% would combine to 65%, rounded up to 70%. So, that scenario would qualify for SMC-S.

I agree that SMC can be granted for people who are receiving disability benefits whose disabilities require aid. That program is different from the aid and attendance for VA pensioners.

You may want to obtain the form 21-2680 and take it to your doctor. This is the application. Generally, A&A are for 100% who can show they are in need of this additional monetary benefits. Even spouses may qualify if the Vet is 100%. Spouses need to fill out there own separate 21-2680.
